Lighthouse Baptist Academy

This was a great school for my daughter when she started Kindergarten, Her teacher was very helpful as she adjusted to not being used to leaving me to go to school. She learned very quickly and I must say this school would be the only reason why i moved back to this area of town. Teachers are great and Staff is VERY AWESOME!!

Overall I would say this school is just Mediocre to average. Because there are some teachers that really care and really try to do what’s best to help your child learn.

My daughter's love their school. They come home excited to talk about their day and are so eager to share with me all the new things they have learned. We like to compare what learning techniques are used on their classroom vs when I went to school. I can say it is a lot different, but it sounds so fun. Every teacher there remembers their previous students/ students families and that is really nice to know your always seeing known faces. It's comforting as a parent because it to me helps with keeping the school safe and makes for a comfortable environment for the students. Parent participation is always welcomed and encouraged.

I feel like in the last couple of years this school has declined academically. Many students are being failed due to the implementation of new curriculum that is confusing, not age appropriate for grade level, and many kids are only passing due to an inappropriate amount of ‘help’ so they won’t fail and hurt the overall passing average of I had to guess. My child still couldn’t read at the end of 2nd grade but somehow passed kindergarten and 1st grade with A’s and B’s. Didn’t have a failing grade of an E in Reading until 3rd quarter when I realized there was a problem and got him tested outside of the school system. Only then did I realize how bad it was with not quite reading on a 1st quarter of kindergarten level. My question is how did he have A’s and B’s K-5-1st grade and half of second grade with no concern until I had him tested and called for a conference? How was he missing so many foundational building blocks after spending 8hrs a day/5 days a week in a classroom but yet when I found someone outside the system to tutor him for 45 minutes1 day a week in less than 3 months he was almost caught up to 3rd grade level? The whole system is broken and needs to make changes so that kids aren’t continuously passed without mastering the level they are leaving. My daughter who is in 2nd grade we noticed was having similar issues and luckily she was able to get help before getting as far behind as my son did but this is not okay. Along with the fact that they have a playground at the school that they aren’t even allowed to play on. Elementary schools should all have recess time to get out of the classroom, run off some energy and just be allowed to be kids even if for only a half hour a day. I believe this would help the morale of the school and kids would be more engaged in the classroom.

This school is wonderful! It is small, and that is what makes it great. The curriculum is the same as the rest of the Archdiocese...and check out the latest on their website www.svsSchool.org they are the only school in Mobile to be invited to the White House for their robotics accomplishments! Also least expensive Catholic School here!

Ok so a few years back this school was the absolute WORST when it came to everything. I am a former student and I can't tell you the hell that has been left on my psyche. Their Bible 'studies', if you can even call them that are absolutely atrocious. Only send your child here if you don't want them to think freely and only go by what the teachers say. They will teach your child to live in fear and ridicule every thing about them if they don't play by their horrible emotionally abusive rules. I actually had a teacher tell my parents that I was never going to graduate and instead of being willing to help me through whatever issues I was going through she simply gave up. This teacher has had several issues with children in the past and I urge you to do any background digging on your own. This school is also a huge money pit. Every single turn they are asking for more and more money yet none will go towards bettering the school and your child's experience. I am not too sure where they do throw their money but I am safe to assume it's literally anywhere but in the interest of bettering their education. The high school shutting down was the only smart move they made because I was able to escape the hell and go to a far better school who helped me work through my issues and I was able to graduate Valedictorian. Maybe they have changed over the years, but honestly their past is too heinous to forgive. If you are considering sending your child here I beg you to at least do some research on the school and its teachers. I may come off as angry and bitter but I have tried forgive and look back on what I myself could have done different to make my experience better, but for a school that shouldn't be the case. I have tried to move past all this and I have to a point, but I worry for the future children who are attending who may be going through the same thing I and my old classmates have. It may have gotten better recently, I can't say for sure, but like I said, I do urge you to do research on this place, meet with the teachers and if you can, ask other students how they feel about the school.
