Read what parents are saying about Evelyn D Houston Elementary SchoolTalladega City Schools are terrible. This system goes through superintendents like most of us go through underwear. Ppl that work there don’t send their kids to TCS. The current (July 2022) superintendent doesn’t even send his kids to the system he works for. The special education department does not do their job and the person in charge of it is a joke. The kids enrolled in TCS are not students you would want your children to interact with on a daily basis. You want your kids to be excited & motivated to learn. Unfortunately, the kids here do not come from homes that encourage success. It’s sad. How do I know all of this? I worked in this system for over 25 years. Don’t send your kids to any school in this system or you will regret it.

Posted by a parent on 4/12/2012I have had three children to attend this school. I will have two more children to attend this school. I believe the teachers in this school are good teachers but overloaded without having the support they need from the principal. I have ben treated with cold indifference when trying to address problems involving my children and bullies, as well as with academic difficulties. Thank God for the teachers and Teacher aides (such as speech and LD) for my children would be left far behind if it was up to this principal. I would like to see the people in this city vote her out. I know the Superintindent here has a drawer full of parent complaints against her. Her tenure should be revoked so that our children will have a chance at a strong academic and socially enlightened start in life.

Mrs.Dyer is an involved and caring leader who gets personally involved with students who need help, guidance or otherwise. My oldest son had some real emotional issues when he first started at this school. He had transferred from Houston after being treated with indifference by the principal there. At Graham he was received with warmth and care. He was offered counseling and support from teachers and direct involvment from Mrs. Dyer. All the staff were very kind to us and let me know how things were going with him continually. The people in that school care a great deal for their students. They are also no nonsense when it comes to acedemics and fair discipline, which is exactly what my son needed. Two sons actually. They accept nothing but the personal best from their students and encourage them wonderfully. I recommend this school to anyone.Parent Review13y ago - Raymond L Young Elementary School
