Posted by a parent on 6/4/2018The staff here is extremely unprofessional and rude. They also take advantage of low income working parents.
Posted by a parent on 9/4/2014My grandson attends Hueytown and this was his first year..We have very pleased with the teachers, the principal, and parent involvement, looking forward to next year!
Posted by a parent on 5/16/2013I was very unpleased with this school and the adminstration. The teachers never had time to speak with parents they fail to respond to any concerns I had about my childrens grades. The new assistant principle she is extremly rude and fake. This was the worst school year that I have ever experienced. I don't recommend this school to anyone The office staff is very rude as well.

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy girls attended this school last school year and it was the worse school we ever encountered. The principle and office staff were absolutely unprofessional. Did not respectfully call my children by their names when I came by to check them out of school. The only thing that made it a little tolerable were their teachers.Parent Review10y ago - Hueytown Primary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have had 3 children attend NHES, 2 of them still do. My oldest is a 5th grader and my youngest is a 1st grader. We have NEVER had an issue that hadn't been addressed. My oldest is a straight "A" student and has been involved in so many different activities and/or groups because of her academic achievements. This is definitely a great school to send an excelled child! They offer the TaG Program (Talented and Gifted), National Elementary Honor Society, Ambassadors, Safety Patrol, Science Olympiad, Chess Club, Drama Club, Choir Club, Spanish Club, Newcomb Team, Spelling Bee, Hearing and Vision Screening, Speech and Language Therapy, Reading Help, etc.... Too many to name them all!!! They are ALWAYS welcoming parents to come "sit in" or to come and volunteer for ANYTHING!!!I absolutely LOVE NHES and I hope the next few years are just as great!!Parent Review5y ago - Abrams Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSchools get worse, but this school is pretty bad. Three generations of my family have attended, but the children today have it really bad. Most of the good teachers are gone. I'd say about 15% of the staff is actually worth paying. Some paraprofessionals, librarians, janitors, and a few teachers. Most of the teachers are poor communicators, lazy, under-protective of the students, and take no pride in what they do. Some are defensive and disrespectful toward parents and children. The teachers are there to collect checks, as they have either taken no interest in the children or have just given up. In poorer socioeconomic areas, things can be challenging. There's no doubt. I just figure you're up for the challenge or not. Most of the faculty aren't. The passion is hanging on by a thread only because of the few that actually care about the children and their profession. Otherwise there would be none. Another thing about this school is how they promote testing rather than learning, growth, and character. There's more to life than taking tests. Tests are important at times, but the whole curriculum should not revolve around tests. Now to be a bit petty, their drop-off/pick-up and check-in/check-out process isn't well planned. Dropping off in the morning is okay. I would like to see more than a couple of people receiving the kids in the morning though. Picking up is awful. The walkie-talkie system they have is supposed to call the kids out to the car, but there are cars parked on the left and right side of the road because people still go in to get kids. Plus traffic in the middle of the road, but the traffic officer keeps that line moving (when they're doing their job). Where to park? How to get out after pick-up? If someone is entering the building to get their children, then they should use the parking lot. Leave spaces for people respecting what little order is in place. Check-in/check-out requires parents to sign in at a building used for state and county programs, not the actual elementary school. Then you take your child to the actual school. Time wasted. Enclosing. There are more bad things, but this school has much potential. I see what it could be. It frustrates me because I know what it was. Many of the faculty and staff are genuinely decent people. Some actually good people. Where is the pride and passion though?Other Review8y ago - Deeper Life Academy

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe experience my family had was terrible. My family was informed this was an accredited school and that was a lie. Surely no board is governing the actions of this school and if it was it should have been shut down . It is a daycare at best and I would not even feel comfortable sending my infant there. There is no instruction , there are no extra curricular activities . Besides not being given an education , how do they build social skills? You are better off sending your child to PUBLIC SCHOOL. At least there they will receive some level of education. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL!STRONGLY DISAGREE: Leadership at this school is effective.Leadership is incompotent and does not have the background nor the expertise to run a educational institution.ReportSTRONGLY DISAGREE: This school effectively supports students with learning differences. This school should be shut down due to the fact that they are robbing the parents blind just to have the children teach themselves out of workbooks. My sibling went there and they knew he was failing and did not provide the support needed to ensure he got the education he deserved. Where is the tutoring ? Where are the accommodations?Other Review6y ago - Zion Lutheran School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI transfered to Garywood from a public school. First, they really don't offer a wide arrangement of classes. At my public school we could choose from a list of electives. The biggest problem with the school was that none of the teachers (that taught high school) actually had a degree in what they were teaching or either didn't have a degree at all. The school wasn't credited when I went there so my diploma was worth nothing until they became credited 2 years later. I learned nothing my senior year. The SAT's are a sham. The whole school basically was. The teachers mean well, but a subsitute teacher shouldn't be made the offical teacher just because they couldn't find a replacement. Graduated in 2005.Other Review11y ago - Brooklane Baptist Academy

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy grandson has attended this school for over 5 years. He is currently a fifth grader. The academic achievement that he has reached is amazing. Our family refers to him as our Genius. He is so smart and ahead of the average 5th grader. There has not been any challenges so far, with him being a student of Color. It has truly shown us that it lives up to his name being a Christian Academy. There is diversity in the faculty/staff and students. We feel safe with him being there. If you are looking for a good school, give them a try.Parent Review8mo ago - Ra Hudson Christian Academy
