Because it is such a small school, especially in middle school everybody knows everyone because the in only 1 class per grade and the biggest class in middle school in 7th grade (20 people). That being said, if you don't like one person in your class you don't have them for just Math or something, no you see them all day every day. Most of the teachers are great (in middle school at least) I don't think that one person dislikes the Social Studies/Drama teacher or the ELA teacher and her Intern. The only people I have a problem with are the Math teacher and the Librarian, now I know because I put myself as a current student you will think I'm dramatic but NO! I'm not kidding when I say not one person out of all of middle school likes the math teacher and the Librarian, I mean it. But other than that, I have no complaints really about the school.

I'd like to respond to some of the other reviews as an active student at Ingraham High School. Ingraham is one of the most academically sound and intense schools in the PSE as a result of their IB program. If the low AP enrollment scares you away then don't worry, it's because students are taking IB; which is significantly harder. Essentially all of the teachers are very well trained and have been working in their respective fields for many years. There are always some teachers you wont like but In my personal experience I've been very happy and formed a great connection with all of mine.To the other post saying "just do running start" don't be misguided. Running start is a great option for many students, but IB tends to prepare you a lot more for college readiness and looks a lot better on college applications. If you're trying to just get college credits and be able to drop a year or two of college then sure, do running start. But if you're trying to get into an academically rigorous and respected four year college, do IB. It's like comparing apples and oranges.They have all kinds of trade-school programs WITHIN the school, exceptional SEL opportunities and a full time social worker and many mental health staff, drug interventionists, therapists, and a fully anonymous doctor's clinic within the school for students. This is a place where I, and essentially ANY other student regardless of their academic incline will be taken care of for their future, whether it be in regards to job training, additional schooling, or securing post-highschool plans. I would strongly recommend sending your student to Ingraham for any student in the PSE area. Please, take my advice.TLDR; Ingraham is a very good school that spends a lot of time helping students with all kinds of things. 100% send your student there over any other SPS school.

My daughter had 2 terrible years at Whitman. She went in from private school with strong academics, and was always a thriving student being challenged and encouraged daily. Whitman changed that for the worst.She is now unmotivated, doesn't enjoy going to school, and the electives choice is just a joke. She asked for visual arts 2 years in a row and got turned down every time. Now they give her walking PE. They swapped arts for walking PE? Make that make sense. The stem teacher is amazing, but we were promised a wonderful new stem curriculum this year, students were even encouraged to take stem again to benefit from it - but it did not happen. And families weren't notified either, so she had to do the exact same curriculum this year.There is 0 communication with parents on those issues, and it is clear the admin has better things to do.I would disregard the aging building and lack of inviting amenities if at least the academics and electives were up to par with the other middle school I visited this month.Trust me, there are way better options out there.

We LOVE Viewlands!We have had 4 children attend at least 2 years of Viewlands between 2013 - 2021, all with very different needs, personalities, and learning styles. Every year their teachers meet our kids where they were and celebrated their strengths. While the kids have favorite teachers, who they hope to get each year, there is not a single teacher they haven't loved. Our kids always feel valued and seen by all the staff. You cannot walk down the hall without a teacher or staff member greeting a kid by name. 3 of our 4 have IEPs and all our interactions with the teachers and staff around getting updates, making sure accommodations are met, etc have been positive - with the staff often bringing up suggestions we hadn't thought of before. With one of our kids, it took us 2 years to realize she likely needed an IEP/504 because the teachers just naturally provided accommodations to her (and the rest of her class). We only formalized her accommodations to make sure we have them for when she moves on to middle school/ Junior high.Unfortunately, the diversity in the school has decreased as a result of the demographic changes in the neighborhood. While this sucks and I wish our neighborhood wasn't pushing our neighbors out, I think Viewlands does a good job trying to make sure their students & families of color still feel seen, heard, and wanted. I know they have done outreach to engage their families that may feel like they are being pushed out and to keep the community feeling united.
