9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI attended OHS from 1998-2002. As an alum of Open High School, I can proudly say that I grew into a lifelong learner and thinker because of the independence and quality of education provided by the teachers and staff of Open High. The small knit community and class sizes allow teachers and students to get consistent feedback as well as growth in different subject areas and personal matters. Teachers act more as mentors as they guide students through the knowledge. Self study and curiosity are encouraged and welcomed. I do not recall an emphasis on SOLs but I recall passing them all every year. Students who graduate from Open High School tend to be great additions to society. Most attend and graduate from a university with advanced degrees. The class of 2002 alumni mostly have Masters degrees and Doctoral degrees in their perspective fields. Most of us are still friends 18+ years later.Open High School is a TOP school within Richmond Public Schools.Other Review3y ago - Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Averagethis school is terrible, moved in from another county, and this schools completely different, would not recommend going here. the kids will curse at you, bully you, steal ur stuff when ur not looking bro, terrible. 2-3 people passed their sols, teachers probably dont care, etc. just dont go here bro.Parent Review1y ago - Bellevue Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have been part of the Bellevue elementary community for several years now. And, I have got to say just how wonderful of a place this school has been for our children. The engagement and love that the teachers and faculty show for the students is first rate. I was surprised to see the rating here as it stands. The information and data shown here does not align with our experience and observations at all, and to speak candidly, does a disservice to the hard work and level of professionalism that is demonstrated daily. The school provides a lot of outlets for children to explore education and works diligently to understand each child and their needs. Focusing on how to best support kids at an individual level. We have found a wonderful student body, parents that love and care for their children and their education, a neighborhood community that supports the school and is invested in its success, and the opportunity to have your children thrive. To be honest, I as a parent have grown tremendously while supporting my children’s journey. I am grateful and proud to be part of the castle on the hill! 9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs parents, this is the best decision that we could have made. We came from a private school in the first 9 years to move into the public school system where in Richmond is not highly regarded. But this school is the crown jewel of RPS. The quality of the teachers, counselors, students and administrators has been nothing less than spectacular. The challenge given by the teachers and administrators to the students could be overwhelming at first, but the way that the challenge is nurtured leads to a complete graduate that is ready for college. Students that come back to RCHS after a year or two of college credit the years spent here as the building blocks of seamless transmission to higher education. It is really a hidden gem in RPS.Parent Review6y ago - Armstrong High School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageArmstrong High School is full of caring teachers and students who are willing and want to learn, unfortunately, there are always a few students, who make it bad, for the school as a whole. What would really make the school better, is to just put the kids who are disrespectful, violent and ignorant beyond measure out! Stop tolerating their foolishness, so the teachers can teach, and the students can learn. It is time to make the students and parents more accountable, and stop putting the total blame on teachers. As a parent, I have been inside Armstrong and seen teachers go the extra mile, with their time, patience and their money, to help the students. Armstrong isn't a perfect school, but it has the potential to be a great school, with the right support from the parents, students and the community.Parent Review10y ago - Franklin Military Academy

"Church Hill is a quiet but lively neighborhood with a ton of community and culture. I love that it has the benefits of a city (stores, restaurants, parks, etc) but still has a neighborhood feel. There's always something or some event going on and we love that we can walk to everything we need to. "

"Easy access to the Pulse and GRTC buses. Walkable to Shockoe Slip and even downtown. Easy access to the interstates though it gets a little congested once you go down the hill toward Shockoe Bottom and the on ramps."

"Friendly neighbors in a mixed income area; lots of stuff to do within walking distance; close to gas stations and the highway; walking distance to downtown Richmond, MCV, the river and the bottom; on the bus line; stores like Walmart, Lowe’s, grocery, etc. within two miles; some petty property thefts, but not really an issue if you lock your car and track your packages!"

"Skyline and river views, a great little park and plenty of dining opportunities within walking distance make this area a great neighborhood."
- Fburroughs

"I work in an office located 5 minutes from this area and I have renovated a home in this area. The 600 block of N 33rd St. is located 5 minutes from the Virginia Commonwealth University and VCU/MCV Hospital. Interstates 95 and 64 are also located just five minutes away. There is a nice Mall (White Oak Mall) located less than 10 minutes away in Eastern Henrico County with "big box" stores such as Lowes Home Improvement, J. C. Penney, Target, Martins Grocery, etc. along with restaurants such as Long Horn Steak House, Olive Garden, TGIF Fridays, Steak & Shake, etc. Public Transporation (GRTC) from the neighborhood is located one block away from N 33rd St. on Chimborazzo BLVD. There is also a Grocery store located just one block away from N 33rd St. The James River is within "walking distance" (approximately 15 minutes) from the 600 block on N. 33rd St. On the street parking is not a problem and there is alley access to the rear of the homes and ample room for off-street parking on each homes' lot located on the 600 block of N. 33rd Street. There is a dog park located with walking distance from the 600 block of N. 33rd St. as well as some restaurants, bars, parks."
