4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is a mess. There are violence issues with both students and the campus law enforcers (who have used unjust force and hurt bystanders in the process). There is a rampant drug problem that has only been met with harsh and ineffective restrictions. Students aren't allowed to use the bathroom during class. Metal detectors have held kids in lines outside for up to two hours (I'm sure some will doubt me but I'm being truthful or may God strike me down). There are random spot checks where the police will interrupt classes and have all belongings searched. Custodians and school cooks are saints. The amount of work they have to do is insane but they're always respectful and kind to students and staff alike. It's unfortunate to see passionate teachers who care about their students be stifled by administration. There are gems at this school who've single-handedly changed the trajectory of at-risk and unmotivated students' lives. The assistant principals are more concerned with enforcing benign and meticulous rules than dealing with bullying and sexual assault. The dismissal of sexual assault and drug use from athletics kids specifically is borderline malicious. It's a public school so the lack of mental health support probably goes without saying. The principal is more concerned with "keeping the peace" than helping students feel safe and accepted, especially in SA cases. I hate to bring it up often because it is a gruesome tragedy but it is also a cancer in JVHS that is consistently ignored. As for the building itself... it's falling apart. In 2018, the left science wing of the school was falling off. There was a fault in the floor that was so large you could see it under the carpet. Water leaks from the ceiling and the only solution is to remove the ruined tiles and put a trash can under it. (Don't worry, they put the ruined tiles back in. Reduce, reuse, and recycle.) A rat once fell out of a missing ceiling tile in the middle of class (once again, may God strike me down this is not a rumor. It's true). Mice are frequent visitors of locker rooms and cafeterias. In 2019 there was blood in one of the distal hallways for a full week. They had to close down a section of food lines in 2018 because of a roach infestation that holds it's ground to this day. The roaches are everywhere. Classrooms, bathrooms, inside the lights. Everywhere. It's not all bad, but the bad outweighs the good. -class of 22Student Review1y ago - Cook Middle School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI Will Say not all the teachers and staff here are terrible, My student has had a few good teachers who are patient and know how to work with kids. This is the first year I’ve been supper involved and coming to visit during lunch hours and I’ve noticed that A LOT of these teachers should not be teachers or staff here. They yell and scream and the only time they don’t is when the principal is around to save their jobs. They don’t allow these kids to be kids, IE talking at lunch, applauding their fellow classmates on stage, ect. Be weary of sending your kids here and not being involved cause you’ll be oblivious to it. Nothing is ever done with formal complaints, teachers/staff treat children TERRIBLY and no one corrects them about it.Parent Review4mo ago - Check out schools near 10419 Sand Pass Ln.
