I have a high function Autistic Kid in Kindergarten started in 2022. The Autistic support class is very helpful in providing him the necessary growth he needs. The environment is very safe, multicultural, teaching is great, family engagement, safety and special education are all in the right mix. Though its not very highly rated than few neighboring schools, I firmly believe this is an excellent school.

Academics:Pros: Excellent teachers like Mr. Swift make learning engaging, and AP options provide academic stimulation.Cons: Homework load and teaching styles can be inconsistent but those are very minor issues.Extracurriculars:Pros: Diverse clubs and sports cater to various interests, fostering a vibrant school spirit. Leadership opportunities abound in student council and committees.Cons: Can’t think of any for a quick review without nitpicking to be honest.School Environment:Pros: Generally clean and well-maintained facilities promote a positive and inclusive atmosphere, reinforced by school events and initiatives.Cons: Occasional bullying incidents occur, although swiftly addressed by the administration.Teacher-Student Relationships:Pros: Many approachable and supportive teachers encourage open communication through conferences and online portals.Cons: Inconsistent teacher styles and occasional instances of impatience or lack of cultural sensitivity raise concerns.Communication:Pros: Regular newsletters and online updates keep parents informed, and a dedicated website provides resources and important dates.Cons: Miscommunications regarding policies or events can occur, and some parents feel their concerns aren't adequately addressed. Overall Impression: J.R. Fugett offers a well-rounded middle school experience with dedicated teachers and diverse opportunities. However, room for improvement exists in communication and teacher consistency. Would I recommend it? With reservations. It depends on your learning style and personality. Actively engaging with the school community and advocating for yourself are key to thriving here. Remember: This is just one student's perspective. Your experience may vary. I currently have a Junior attending WC East and another at Fugett, although they are connected there is a huge difference in the way they are ran. The staff at East definitely know what they are doing, everyone is so friendly and inviting. There are so many options if the kids need additional help and homework is minimal because they understand that at these ages there are a lot of extracurricular activities after school plus most of the older kids may have work as well. It seems like the school has improved a lot based on some of the older reviews so I'm glad they took the action that was needed because it's been a great experience for us.
