4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter tells me that she's being bullied and no one seems to care at this school. Your staff needs to pay more attention to the students and if something doesn't seem right with a child, they need to ask that child and then do something about. No child should feel threatened when they walk into the school. That is the number one cause of drop outs. Some kids can't handle pressure from bullies and deal with their school work. All I ask is that someone start paying more attention to the signs of a bullied child and do something about it before something really bad happens to the children.Parent Review8y ago - Banner Elk Elementary School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHome of the 3 day school week... this is not a true mountain school but yet a school that misses a tremendous amount of time for trivial weather conditions. People here can not handle an inch of snow and function... the academics suffer from the loss of daysParent Review4y ago - Avery Middle

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe teachers seem to really care for the students and quickly respond to all emails and phone calls about my child's grades or any concerns I have. Also, a lot of extra curricular activities for students to be involved with. They have a very active junior beta club that compete and have won at numerous leadership events. Their math counts and science olympiad teams have also been very successful. I don't think there is a better school in the area.Parent Review1y ago - Check out schools near 140 Crestview Ln #100-A.

What Locals Say about Banner Elk

"We love the rural community, the people are friendly, lots of farms, beautiful in all seasons , you need to like mountain roads"
- Suzie S.

"Great area if you dont have to drive & you can afford it. Mostly students, retirees, tourists, contruction workers, loggers, and wealthy 4th homes. Over 3,000 short-term rentals. No place for service workers to live. Very congested with roadwork and tourists in the summer. Nice weather, but it pretends to be the Aspen of Dixie. Housing is same cost as California, but no jobs."

"I have seen the High Country change tremendously since 2010. Itt saddens me that we cater mostly to tourists & so many summer residents are incredibly rude. No housing for middle income. It is a huge issue. Beautiful views & weather despite Mack trucks, Loggers, and constant roadwork & traffic. If you are uber wealthy & don't have to commute or work, it is the bees knees as any place would be."

"We have block parties on every 4th of July. They have things for adults and children. I also know all my neighbors by their first names. "

"I see a lot of dog friendly venues. People are dining outside with their fur babies. Many services for pets - groomers, vets, pet supply stores. I have not seen any dog parks."

"There is a lot of grass and hills for the dogs to have fun on and sniff. The only downside is it's a busy street and dogs can easily be hurt by oncoming traffic."
