My 2 daughters have been homeschooled since the pandemic. This past year was their first time experiencing the public school setting. They were both in second grade, but different classrooms, and they blossomed academically, socially, and mentally. They both recieved awards that boosted their self esteem. I feel like Okalona is a smaller school setting which in return allows the teachers to build a closer relationship with the students, also allowing more one on one time for teachers to work closely with students in a whatever various way that connects with the students. I am so happy that my children was able to attend Okalona Elemtary and I plan on them continueing their education there until they graduate to middle school. I would most definitely recommend Okalona Elemtentary. Mr. Hondadel is a wonderful, hands on, involved, caring teacher. He teaches in ways that makds it fun to learn which leaves an imprint on children. For example, they incubated and hatched duck eggs, they got to experience it all first hand in the classroom! Super cool. He will leave a lasting impression on my daughter throughout her school years and maybe even adult hood.

Ctap ..southern high school is a joke . Turning to the counselor for help is like trying to claw your way out of a metal wall. The principal is impossible to talk to and the teachers curse at the students. The dress code is ridiculous. They have to stand and spin for the teacher every morning before they even say the pledge. Which to me is a bit of sexual harassment. The dress code reads fine. It’s the way they enforce it and how they treat the children that I disapprove of. They treat them like they’re in prison, pushing them against the wall making them put their hands to their sides measuring their fingertips. Nothing about any of that is OK to me. They put them in ASAP and don’t allow them to do their work. They don’t allow them to have a pen or pencil they don’t allow them to read. They just sit there and look forward and if your child has ADHD like mine that is pure torture , and again like prison. I don’t recommend the school if you have an option, I would choose the other option. There is lots of fights. Some of them are racially motivated. Some of them are because of your sexuality, but they are so bad that children end up in the hospital because the staff will not interfere. The kids get in trouble all the time and on while the bad kids rule the school and do whatever they want and never get in trouble it is backwards and frustrating and I’ve been to school boards I have been trying harder than anybody to talk to somebody to help my daughter, but they just set us aside and give us a piece of paper for online school , which is not an option, so they want to push her out of school and dismiss the whole situation so I would not choose the school if you have a choice. It is not a good place for your child. They will have a terrible experience. My child is not the only child who has had a bad experience. I know several and it’s sad because they want to quit , they will probably quit school. Good luck out there.

Thomas Jefferson Middle School is one of the worst schools in the city! the administration does not care about its students. The inmates are running the asylum! THERE IS no reason for the bathrooms to be locked IN BETWEEN CLASSES!!!! If my daughter needs "lady time" 2 times a day IS NOT OK!!!! i Hope you tell my girl she cant use the restroom during her time of the month!!! 80% of your girls are experiencing their first step into woman hood.... and yet the bathrooms are locked in between classes!!! Not to mention the car rider line.... the man in charge (Mr. Ricahrdson) has NO IDEA WHAT HE IS DOING!!!! 8 lines of cars merging into 2!!!! Its Like A Mario cart FREE FOR ALL!! Kids were running out in front of cars. You cant pass cars who are waiting for kids who are not ready for the car pick up line! seems like its a power trip to me! BUT LETS NOT GET INTO THE BUSES!!!..... My daughter bus was in a wreck on briarcliff and outerloop.... NO ONE CALLED OR NOTIFIED ME! i DONT CARE that it was minor.... IT IS THE SCHOOL'S JOB to notify the parents.... my daughter had to notify me!!!!! i did not get a single call or text from the school or the bus dept notifying me of the accident!!! but this list goes on!!! im one incident away from pulling my child out and homeschooling her! Go ahead TJMS.... ITS ONLY THE "2ND WEEK" i already tried to transfer my kid but WAS DENIED!!! THATS OK CAUSE HOMESCHOOL IS AN OPTION!!!! ???
