Description
This property is no longer available to rent or to buy. This description is from November 10, 2021
Truly a Five Points Classic, this circa 1949 Brick Cottage home is a gem in the very heart of Athens. The owner having an eye for architecture, well thought out floor plans and top of the line finishes make for an unbelievable renovation and addition! The exterior of this home is exactly the curb appeal you are looking for in a cottage with the perfect landscaping that accentuates the cottage style. People watching at its best with a cute front porch and swing. I love that the front door faces east inward toward the screen porch. In keeping with the character of this home you have a screen door for fresh air on those fall and spring days. As you enter the home you will be amazed at how you can see from the front of the home all the way through to the back of the home. This is very unusual to have such an open floor plan in Five Points. You will enjoy having all of your living space on one level, with hardwood floors, tons of windows and every inch being completely renovated. It is a split bedroom floor plan with two bedrooms and one full bath on the left hand side of the home and the master bedroom being private in the back on the right hand side of the home. The kitchen is conveniently located in the center of the house and open to all of the living space: dining room, living room, breakfast room and great room/sunroom. Your guests will enjoy gathering around the kitchen and being able to visit multiple rooms at the same time. Top of the line stainless steel appliances, double sink, drink refrigerator and multiple prep countertop areas make for a chef kitchen. Little details were not overlooked with spice cabinets and some floating shelves. Having a pantry is not a standard in these older homes but of course the owner reworked a space for there to be an ample size area for canned goods, larger mixing appliances and your dry goods. On one side of the kitchen you have a breakfast bar large enough for four bar stools and an oversized area for a breakfast table where you could also have two club chairs. The laundry room is tucked away at the end of the breakfast table area and this room includes a laundry sink, cabinetry and space for an additional refrigerator. As I have stated this home is completely open, so the breakfast area only has a half wall that has built-in bookcases on one side and allows this space to be completely open to the great room/large sunroom. Natural light, natural light, natural light! What can I say the great room/sunroom has one wall that is all windows and glass French doors leading out to the deck and extra driveway. The master bedroom is oversized with a walk-in closet and a fabulous remodeled bathroom with built-in linen cabinetry, double sinks, seamless glass step in shower with beautiful tile and a penny tile floor. The real BONUS of this property features a 576 square foot guest cottage that is only five years old and hosts one bedroom, one bath, laundry closet, mini kitchen and great room. You will love the privacy of the guest house that was built with a front porch, nine foot ceilings and has a remote gate for your own parking space. You have a well manicured lawn between the main home and guest cottage. There is a privacy fence on the back of the lawn, hiding the guest cottage. This is truly one of a kind home with a driveway for parking in the front of the cottage and an electric remote gate in the back for accessing the guest cottage and extra parking for the main home allowing you to enter with almost no steps onto the deck that has glass French doors leading you into the great room/sunroom. An extra feature this home offer is a new generator in case you lose power. The University of Georgia, restaurants and shopping are only steps away. You don't want to miss this rare opportunity!!

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOverall I have had a good experience with Clarke Central. Many wonderful teachers who take a real interest, plenty of opportunities and extra curricular activities. I get the impression that student violence is on the “more common” side but I can say first hand that it’s not hard for a student to stay out of all that. I will say the schedule leaves little wiggle room, 5 minutes between classes on a sprawling campus, 20 minute lunches (and the kids who have the last lunch are so often out of luck- I mean I have been sent photos of food that is inedible! So one of my sons often takes lunch with him) and I can only speak for my own kids when I say candidly- they refuse to use the bathrooms while at school, and are practically afraid of bathrooms. I suppose a lot of shady nonsense goes on and besides they don’t have a lot of time for it. There was one egregious clerical error, resulting in some real problems for a day (my child was disenrolled and all saved schoolwork on his student account was gone) thankfully I had the day off and was able to track down the proof that this was an error on their side and not mine. I was lied to and never apologized to but it was cleared up and his work was restored so “no harm no foul”. Again though, on the whole I’ve really appreciated specific teachers and the attempts at community engagement.Parent Review1y ago - Barrow Elementary School

"Barber street is usually covered in plastic cups from Greek rich kids parties. They also think it’s fine to just congregate in the streets and park like Barber is their driveway. But I do love boulevard and surrounding area. Have lived in this area for 17 years. I hear the school district is great. And being able to walk to downtown is fantastic."

"More and more people are living here but the roads are staying the same size since the past 30 years. Traffic can be horrible going to work in the morning, and getting off work, from 4pm to 6pm, forget going anywhere. Depending what part of Athens you’re in, will effect your view on Athens. There’s a poor lifestyle and there’s a wealthy lifestyle to this town. Slowly Athens is updating its lifestyle to fit wealthy families. It sure is a college town, and traffic is much better once the college students are out of town. I’ve lived here my whole life so I know where to go and where not to go. I’ve seen girls/college girls out walking in places they shouldn’t have been walking (out of town ppl don’t know any better) but they think since it’s a college town it’s ok, and that’s where they’re wrong. Overall nice town but way too crowded. "

"Our current neighborhood isn’t that great. There’s not a lot of courtesy that gets displayed between residents, it’s in a sketchy part of town, and there have been a few crimes that have occurred here in a short amount of time. Would not recommend raising your children here. Also the public schools are terrible."
