3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHORRIBLE! this was the worst experience we have ever had with a school!, or with anything! My son had anxiety, seizures they would physically restrain him and shove me out of the office, they would keep him in the nurses office for HOURS instead of having me pick him up! He ended up in the ER a few times due to his being mistreated. He has chased me down the street as I drove off, I found him lying on the side walk scraped up and crying, if I didn't see him in my rear view mirror I would have never known he had left campus as I never received a call! And if you try to get help the principal will retaliate, I am NOT the first person she has retaliated against either. My reviews always get deleted. wondering how long this will stay this time. Also, ask around the neighborhood. So many parents I have met are upset about the way this school is run. Do not Trust ANYONE at this school. I trusted them to help us, but in the end my child ended up having to have therapy from the way he was treated. By the way, look at the 4 stars, they are from 5+ years ago. I will never forget or forgive the experience we had there.Parent Review5y ago - Montgomery Middle School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Averagemeh, bad school honestly. Graduated this school 2 years ago and as one of the “smart and good students,” I wouldn’t recommend it. You can absolutely do better and choose for your kid. Honestly if you want your child to go to this school, transfer when they go to 8th grade because the other two years are absolutely useless. The 6th grade math teacher teaches you random things that youll never use in the future. The 6th grade social studies who favored me does not even check your work. I honestly sped ran it each time, copying random parts that seemed important and as long as the paper was filled fully, its a 10/10. The only good classes are the 8th grade math teacher, the PE teachers, english and the computer science teacher. History is also pretty nice but the history 8th grade teacher can be a bit well.. She criticized me for having a B in her class. Truly absurd. We had the opportunity to have a student teacher who was dedicated so we were able to learn and he was a great man who was passionate and fun. The 8th grade history actual teacher on the other hand is very boring so after we left many students including myself lost motivation. You learn the most in 8th grade math and english. In art, you practically do nothing the entire class, so choose computer science as your elective, you dont do that much work but you still learn and its really hands on, engaging and fun.Other Review7mo ago - Kearny Digital Media & Design School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHorrible. It offers two honors classes, so students applying to good colleges can't compete unless they have a super high SAT score, because of the lack of rigor. When you complain or file a legitimate grievance, they blacklist you and take it out on your child including not nominating them for scholarships, not completing forms for college applications, etc. They are absolutely horrible. The teachers are decent. The principal is the worst I've ever seen. She cares more about herself and how she looks than the students. I had a student with a 4.0 that was denied admission by several colleges just because the school never submitted the documents needed, in spite of being request months in advance. If you want your child to go to college, don't go here. The student that said they had a 4.5 - that is a lie - with only the 2 honors courses, a 4.5 GPA is absolutely impossible.Parent Review5y ago - Kearny School of Biomedical Science and Technology

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI’m an early graduating senior, an opportunity open to anyone willing to stay on track and work hard. I’m currently participating in one of the school’s unique experiences - by graduation, I will be a certified emergency medical technician (EMT), a unique program offered by the school. I also have a friend in the certified nurses assistant program, and they will be a CNA by graduation. Incredible opportunities not available elsewhere as far as I know. Many of us have also graduated with about a year of college already done, thanks to the dual enrollment program with mesa college up the road. Thanks for a great four years, Kearny BST.Student Review2mo ago - Kearny College Connections

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school was decent mediocre teachers that just want the paycheck. I remember taking biology here and getting this crazy teacher named Horowitz that to this day I don't know if she was bipolar or hated life or both. So, advice is to just switch out if she even still teaches there, and make sure to follow the very strict dress code.Other Review6y ago - Kearny Engineering Innovation & Design

What Locals Say about Bird Land
- Trulia User
- Resident
- 2y ago
"Birdland, is on its own separate mesa connected to the larger Serra Mesa. Overlooking the San Diego River canyon, it is private, friendly and quiet; an established working/middle class neighborhood with mostly well-maintained single story houses built in the 1960’s. There is easy freeway access to nearby downtown and beaches. Medical care and shopping is minutes away. You do need a car, or rely on Uber/Lyft. "
