The administration is always ready to provide us with support and everything we need. We have excellent teachers and counselors who strive to make a positive difference in all of our students. At Jefferson, we work with the parents and the community to ensure that our students get the best education possible so that no one gets left behind. Even though some students can be challenging sometimes, we don't give up on them. We know that life is not perfect, so we strive to find a solution to help them get back on track and continue to better themselves. Jefferson Middle School is a great school where teachers feel happy and proud to educate every student who comes through these doors. From the moment I interviewed on, I have been highly impressed by the sense of community at Laurel. Staff are deeply committed and invested in students success, including students progress in academics and their social-emotional growth. In a recent staff meeting, a new staff member commented about how friendly our student community is, saying they greet her when she walks by even though they have not met her yet. We honor families as their children's first teachers and are always looking for new ways to deepen our collaboration and partnership with them. Many of our families have lived in our community for several generations, while others are new to the area. 6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageClasses are not engaging for my child. This school is not safe. Teachers and staff give preferential treatment to athletes. It borders high crime rate neighborhoods and has had multiple incidences resulting in victims receiving serious injuries. Discipline is not consistent for students who have weapons on campus. I was told that these students "need to have knives on them for their own protection on their way home." This statement is unacceptable. "I am one of the last few original residents in this neighborhood. I've lived here since 1953. my neighborhood goes through a lot of changes every so often. Seems to be a lot of young families moving in again having pride in their homes. So good to see. Rentals don't seem to care nor do the owners who probably live in another city. love my hood just hate the traffic."

"I lived here and I have seen the undesirables moving out do to rent increasing and more police patrol. It is a beautiful area but is a city and with city comes the good, the bad and the ugly. I do see the city making improvements and redevelopment. It's a gorgeous town and has much to offer!!!"

"This community is basically a large cul de sac, one entry and exit. Houses are typically small, 2 or 3 BR, but with large lots compared to new developments. Short walk to the beach and ocean breezes make the climate comfortable. "
