7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAlhambra is a great school. There isn't trouble unless you go looking for it. The lunch is horrible though, the pizza tastes like glue... However there many great teachers on campus (I'll admit a handful of not so great ones), and everyone is very welcoming. This is easily the best school in the area. Although sometimes teachers and ASB go overboard with school pride, there are many opportunities for leadership, sports (we aren't really a "sports" school) and there are clubs galore. It is a rather large school though, with upwards of 3,000 students, however if you need help, counselors are sure you will get it.Student Review9y ago - John Swett Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have had good teachers and great teachers at this school, but not a single bad teacher. The principle comes to every PTA meeting where he reports on what is going on in the school, honestly gives information to the parents and will answer hard questions truthfully and is straightforward. The superintendent has also come to multiple PTA meetings each year to give progress reports and to answer questions about the district and specially our school.Parent Review4y ago - Martinez Junior High School

"Safe neighborhood with a casual swim club and plenty of local trail access. Highway is 4 miles away but traffic isn’t an issue unless you’re driving into Burton valley for school drop off."

"Great neighborhood for raising a family! Very little traffic. Kids can ride their bikes and feel safe. The one drawback of living in our area is there are no sidewalks or street lights. We’re in the unincorporated area of Lafayette."

"Feels like a holiday location in the mountains yet close for corporate life in the city. Best area for high schoolers. "

"My neighbourhood has awful access to public transport. I don’t have a car at the moment. If I want to go into town it’s an hour & 20min walk both ways. It keeps me fit, I guess. We just moved here from Chicago, so it’s a bit of a culture shock. I survived 8 years there with no car. 3 of those years were with kids. The first week we were here, I thought I’d take the kids into SF to see their dads new workplace. I walked for 40mins uphill, pushing a stroller with my 3.5yo and carrying my 1year old on my back so we could catch a bus from St Mary’s College (that runs very not very often) to Orinda BART into SF. Not an experience I would repeat. We probably should have just walked into Lafayette and got the BART from there I need to get my UK licence changed to a CA one, so I can get on the insurance to drive my husbands car"

"The community center on St Mary’s Road is brilliant. It had a tot drop, no registration required preschool, a playground, trails, loads of different keep fit classes and other community events"

"When the power transformers explode, a line comes down, a neighbor has an accident, the tree cutting service smashes into the fire hydrant and floods my garage with water, a cyclist gets hit by a car and the kids run around at halloween, everyone comes together pretty quickly and there’s always people around during the day to help. Seriously good people but mother nature and other factors definitely keep it exciting."

"It was the first place I lived when I moved to CA, 16 years ago. I was in my mid 20s & single, so I moved to SF as soon as I could but as soon as I got married & had a kid, I wanted to come back. It’s a great place for kids!"
