I would give this school no stars if I could! My son and I came to kodiak 3 years ago and East Elementry was the school we chose for my son to attend because everyone was saying how great this school was! But I've had nothing but bad experience with this school so has my son! My son is a bright student and loves school! Due to bullies at this school he hates it! 60-70 students at recess and 1 adult watching them while playing! Bullying is horrible at this school! Students are unsupervised! I've watched kids get picked on and harldly anything is done about the bullying in this school! They never notify the parent when something happens! Classrooms are old and dirty! The kitchen is disgusting!

Teachers are for the most part engaged and challenge the students. Tech courses are widely varied. Welding is top notch, while auto has slipped to sub standard. Academia is pushed heavily, as is college. If your kid wants to go to the military or tech route, be prepared to have administrative and some teachers bad mouth them. School administration is on some sort of power trip, and pushes curriculum that doesn't work, and will not listen to parents of teachers, instead hires curriculum experts to "train" the teachers to try to hid from parents the inadequate material. Overall the school is very good, and is actually much better than the Middle School. No idea how KMS got 9 and KHS only received a 7.... And the School Board has disengaged, and turned all power over to the superintendent, and will not take comments or criticism from the parents or public, and redirects all to the superintendent... Kind of like a dictatorship. Let the teachers teach traditional math, and the students math scores at college would improve. Many Seniors have graduated with "High" marks in Math at KHS, to only be placed in remedial Math at college. Good School, just be informed and involved as a parent.

The teachers and staff are amazing! The reason the score is low, students do not take the state tests seriously. Parents encourage their children by stating; the test doesn’t matter, therefore no effort is made. The school is wonderful, environment is also wonderful. We should stop rating schools on state tests, it makes them look poorly run. There are a lot of intelligent students who go on to do great things in High School and college.
