The staff at this school displayed an appalling level of negligence and disregard for student safety. My nonverbal autistic niece was able to leave her classroom, exit the school grounds entirely, and walk unsupervised along a busy highway to a nearby AM/PM — where she reportedly ate two ice cream cones before anyone even noticed she was missing. This situation is absolutely unacceptable. The fact that a vulnerable child was able to wander off campus, completely unnoticed, represents a catastrophic failure in supervision, communication, and basic duty of care. She could have easily been struck by a vehicle, abducted, or seriously harmed. There is simply no excuse for such a gross lapse in responsibility. Every paraeducator and staff member involved should be deeply ashamed and held accountable for this egregious breach of trust and safety
