My school advocates for the students. We seek to educate the whole child, academically, socially and emotionally!

I was a former teacher there. I soon accepted a job as a principal and moved away wanting to better myself and grow. It was great place to work and gain experience. My passion at Travis was for my students. PAISD is as a whole is a very trying district and you have to have the heart for it. REALITY: Students come from many different backgrounds. Behind the scenes, you deal with students who don't want to learn, students who are having a bad day, students who love you one day, and say they hate you the next. You are more than just a teacher so you have to take this and teach/love them all each day with no bias!! The school is very old and needs to be upgraded. There are plans for the school to be rebuilt in the next year or so. Hopefully, this will enhance the growth for areas like technology in order to keep up with a technology based society. You want your child to have the best! It is not the best school in the world, but not the worst.

Tyrrell sets the standard for the rest of our school district by staying ahead and anticipating student needs. One thing for example that they started this year is class dojo app. It is an excellent way to communicate to parents, and parents to communicate with teachers. Looking forward to another amazing year.

We recently moved to Port Arthur.My oldest is in the fourth grade and struggling. After failed attempts at home to help her get caught up and focusing oon weak reading skills, we consulted the school for advice and guidance. After meeting wwith her teachers and then meeting in a group setting with the principal, teachers and other administrators and education professionals the only course of action offered was an "extended day" program that offered nothing in the way of improvement and only offered more work and a longer day. After consideration we decided to give it a shot. HUGE mistake. The program made the problems worse due to fatigue and lack of engagement by faculty. The program is inconsistent in the materials coverd and too many times the kids simply watched movies. The staff want to do well, but the lack of strong leadership from the principal, the extreme apathy from the parents and the "not my problem" mind set they harbor are giant obstacles to a successful education at this school. We will not be attending again next year and I strongly encourage you to seek better opportunities for your children. This is a horribly weak school in a very disenfranchised area.

Great school with small teacher:student ratio. My son is very advanced compared to his friends from his previous public school.

Great experience and wonderful for all children. A loving environment that nurtured our future leaders.
