6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a former student myself in Portland Schools, growing up in the early 2000's and after I graduated you always heard this school was great. I have friends who went to elementary school here and they will even attest to that. The last 2-3 years it has went from being one of the best to one of the worst, from the administration to the classroom, it's a joke. Kindergarten we never received paperwork form what he was learning in the classroom except at the end of the semester (9 weeks) and then we would be notified that he was struggling. Why were we not made aware of this before 9 weeks? Why did we not receive paperwork daily of what he was doing in school? I thought maybe it was just Kindergarten, but first grade has been the same thing. We had to sign a behavior agreement noting the teachers responsibilities and our child's and we were to sign his folder every night. 9 weeks into school and maybe 1 note on there, we do not get any communication or feedback on his behavior, or his academic progress. I have had him removed from this school and when his stuff was sent home we had 3 piece of paperwork sent home that were not completed. What are they doing all day? Why do we not get work sent home everyday so we can encourage what he is learning at home? Honestly this is just the tip of the iceberg on the communication issues. This is coming from someone who was actively involved in the school, on the PTO Board, and tried to support the school with different ideas to raise money to get updated things for these kids (since the county wants to give all the money to Liberty Creek -but that's a different story for another time) They changed his bus route from getting off at 2:45 and the next day he didnt get off till after 3:15- we were never notified just sitting at the bus stop in panic mode and when we called them to ask they acted like it was not big deal. He came home with a knot on his head from hitting his head on the playground and even went to the nurses office - never notified, and not to mention has been hit in the private area numerous times over the last 2 years. Not once was I notified about ANY OF THIS, I found out from my child. The principal, Mayberry, blocked me on the Remind app, and i have been nothing but respectful towards her, and sent her a total of maybe 4 messages this year that were in conversation with her. I highly recommend rezoning your kids OUT of this school. It's the biggest joke i have ever seen.Parent Review8mo ago4 Reviews - Highland Elementary School
