Little Walnut

I will never recommend this school. I’ve have one child who currently attends and one pulled out to homeschool until I can find a better option. The principal is not open to any form of communication that could be saved and used against her such as email and insists on face to face meetings with her in her office where she proceeds to tell you all of the reasons you’re wrong and whatever issue you have must be a you issue.For example, my child came home every day from kindergarten confused and upset asking me if he was bad. He was made to feel this way because he was having a hard time keeping up with the class. We’ve since had him evaluated and he has ADHD. The reason I will not reenroll him is because I’ve been in contact with several parents with children who have IEPs at Ashville Elementary and the IEPs are never honored and they push starting kids on meds even when parents are not wanting to take that route. That’s a clear sign to me that they do not know how to, don’t care to and/or don’t have the resources to teach kids with IEPs.My other child that currently attends Ashville Elementary only stays because he has friends and loves their once a week gifted program. His ideas are ignored by administrators and complains about not being able to safely express concerns to admin.He has told me of teachers praying with the class, and substitute teachers that keep running logs of “bad kids” in order to take away recesses every time they sub the class.This school seems great from the outside and is largely why we moved to the area, but the more and more I learn about it the more I realize how wrong I was.

South Bloomfield is a wonderful learning school. My granddaughter has learned so much since attending this school. The staff is most cooperative and work so well with the parents and children in furthering their skills.
