"I was born and raised here. People mean well. There are just too many people. It’s like a city. Don’t take people too seriously, and don’t think about people too much. Focus on your hobbies and your life- you’ll be fine."

"Very pet friendly area, a lot of people of the block maybe more than half have a pet. Where it be a cat or dog. I often see stray cats around the neighborhood being feed and a lot of dog owners walking their dog in the evening. "

"The neighborhood is very New Yorkish mix of everything. Beautiful historical houses mixed with urban, multi floor buildings. We’ve been here for a year and already know so many of our neighbors, close and far. We made friends and it feels cozy to swing by for a tea occasionally. Fast ferry is amazing! The best way to get to work ever. "

"There’s a great park near by and some our neighbors are nice. This neighborhood is great to live in. I would rate this neighborhood as 100%. Negativity would be sometimes not finding parking. "

"St. George is a unique neighborhood that is perfect for anyone who plans to work in Manhattan and wants a short, FREE commute. The neighborhood is full of artists, writers, musicians; it's LGBTQ-friendly, lots a great restaurants in the area, low-income and upper-income people living in the same community. Gorgeous old Victorian homes, several condo/coop/apartment buildings in the area. High crime rate? As compared to what? I've never experienced crime here, except for the occasional car break-in. I've live here for 30 years. 10 mins from Snug Harbor Cultural Center."

"They’re many different events at the Staten Island Yankee stadium as well as the Saint George theater. Every year the Navy ships come in just down the street for Fleet week. "

"St Marks place is a nice street. Hamilton, few others near the Staten Island Ferry. The rest is not very nice. It's improving slowly. Now that they're building an outlet Mall, it's hopefully going to get better?"

"My commute to work is pretty easy walking to the SI Ferry terminal. However if getting the bus home can be difficult from the ferry terminal. "

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAfter five wonderful years, we're so sad to be leaving this school. The teachers are absolutely fantastic and genuinely care about the children and how they learn. It's a small school with a big heart. All the families are happy to be part of it and truly care about the school community. It really is a community in every sense, parents and teachers work together to benefit the kids, and that partnership makes all the differenceParent Review1w ago7 Reviews - Harbor View School (The)

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI would not recommend Harbor View School based on our family’s experience. The biggest issue has been consistently poor communication from administration. Important concerns are either delayed, minimized, or not followed up on, which creates a lack of trust and transparency between families and the school.Even more concerning is how school culture is handled. There seems to be a disconnect between the policies the school promotes and what actually happens day to day. In our case, my son experienced bullying for two years, and despite repeated reports, little meaningful action was taken. The administration often hid behind policies instead of using them effectively, and the measures they claimed to put in place were inconsistent and not enforced. As a result, my son never truly felt safe or supported. There also appears to be a broader issue with staff morale. Many teachers seem overwhelmed and burnt out, which understandably impacts how they manage classroom behavior. Unfortunately, this leads to a situation where behavioral issues are not addressed properly, and the students who come to school ready to learn end up paying the price. Instruction time is disrupted, and accountability is uneven. What’s most disappointing is the lack of urgency and ownership from leadership. Families expect schools to partner with them, especially when it comes to student safety and well-being, but that partnership was missing here.I hope the school takes a serious look at improving communication, strengthening its approach to student behavior, and ensuring that all students—not just some—are protected and supported.Parent Review3w ago6 Reviews - Fort Hill Collaborative Elementary
