"Simple, easy. Only crowded during 5:00 rush hour. Other then that it is a real easy place to navigate with very little traffic."

"That this is a safe neighborhood and it’s quiet my kids love it but it’s not much to do they have a few parks that’s close to the area where we live. And the crime rate is low."

"This area has quick access to highway but is very congested with traffic and the beach traffic in the summer time is awful unfortunately "

"I have lived in the greater New Bern area for all 44 years of my life. There is absolutely NOTHING for kids between the ages of 13 and 20 to do to occupy their time, or expend their inexhaustable energies. The shopping here is horrible; unless you can afford to pay premiums, that is. For the middle class, or lower middle class families there are, of course, the standard Discount Retail establishments. Stores such as Roses, Wal-Mart, Family Dollar, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, etc... But theres nothing middle of the road when it comes to being able to purchase good quality products for your home or family at reasonable prices. New Bern has poured countless amounts of money into the improvement of the Downtown area. Top of the line sidewalk materials, beautiful street lights, widened roads, the list is endless and stupid. Why? The only things located in the downtown district are attorney's offices, county government buildings, high end boutiques, the history center and Tryon Palace. The homes in the area are all historic and out of reach price wise for the average family. The apartments in the area are all way over priced for the location. Its as if the muckety mucks of New Bern somehow have convinced themselves that they have another Williamsburg in the making here and believe me when I tell you this: The Do Not! Aside for a few restored historically significant homes, the history center and Tryon Palace there is absolutely nothing to see or do for tourists in this town. Its all over hyped, overblown, over priced and underwhelming. What they've managed to do is to displace the life long residents in favor of retirees and families whose average annual income is well beyond that of the natives and locals to the area. Basically they've created a new Trail of Tears out of native North Carolinians and New Bernians, so that money could move in. Ask anyone. Anyone that doesn't live downtown or isn't a transplant, that is. This town is ridiculous."

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs the 2014 school year comes to a close, we are just as pleased with Brinson as we were when my oldest started there 6 years ago. We are a military family. We had a child or children (depending on the year) at Brinson, left for a year, and then returned to New Bern. My older two kids missed Brinson terribly the year they were gone. They were happier and overall got a better education than at their other school. Our youngest and middle child are currently there and continue to thrive. The teachers are very engaged. Sure, some are better than others, but I haven't had a bad teacher experience so far. The school does very well on standardized tests without obsessing over and stressing the kids about the tests (as compared with another high achieving local school where my friend's child developed test anxiety and spent most of third grade stressed out to the point of not wanting to go to school - and she was a good student). Brinson finds an excellent balance of urging the children to excel while not smothering them. My ONLY gripe is that I wish the curriculum spent more time on grammar. If you are moving to the area, rest assured that Brinson is a positive, safe place.Parent Review12y ago7 Reviews - New Bern Christian Academy
