"They sometimes have Annual Community reunions and meet and greets so that everyone can be familiar with their neighbors but mostly on the west side of Charlotte!"

"This area has many schools close by. It's also close to lots of grocery stores, restaurants, and shopping stores, not too mention a short drive from uptown Charlotte. Kids play outside in the summer time and the area is well kept. Oh also lots of trails nearby for hiking and walking the dog. "

"There is no neighborhood park or recreational facilities in this area, no bus route, and the main road leading to the area has no sidewalks. "

"People occasionally walk theyr dogs mostly weekends and it’s very calm & peaceful. It’s a great community to live in most keep to themselves but will greet you a hello and always smile. There’s not many dog owners in this community. Dog owners have control of theyr pets if you happen to cross paths with another dog owner."

"I lived here for 4 years, have 4 children... I have mixed feelings about the neighborhood everyone pretty much keeps to themselves we walk our dogs and children play outside no problems- but on 2 different occasions we had our front window broken and our car window smashed once... The HOA IS TERRIBLE and the reason why we will be selling by the end of the year. Schools are not good also. "

"A very nice area in many ways - convenient to both uptown and Lake Norman, nice and quiet/rural, and of course very easy to take off for the mountains due to the location N. of Charlotte."

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI'm not usually one to write reviews, especially about a school or company, but I felt compelled to share my experience with Dr. Powell, the Principal of Oakdale Elementary. She has been truly exceptional to my family and me. It's rare to find a principal who genuinely cares for each student as an individual, but Dr. Powell goes above and beyond. When my nephew needed assistance and we were unable to help, Dr. Powell took it upon herself to find alternatives and solutions. She promptly returned every call and responded with genuine empathy and compassion. Her dedication to students and families is unmatched—"No Child Left Behind" could easily be her personal motto. Oakdale Elementary is incredibly fortunate to have such a caring and hands-on leader at the helm. Dr. Powell has made a lasting, positive impact on our family, and I am grateful for her unwavering support.Parent Review2w ago12 Reviews - Mountain Island Lake Academy

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageDon't walk, RUN away from this school. I am begging you, do NOT enroll your child here if you can at all help it. I moved into the area and unfortunately this was the home school for my child. Kindergarten and first grade we great. Those teachers were exceptional but have sense left the school for reasons that I am now all too familiar with. Once my child got to second grade it all went downhill. The staff "NO COMMUNICATION", the teachers" NOPE", Field trips" WHAT'S THAT", Insight as to how your child is performing" NADA". The lack of confidence I have in this school to provide my child with a solid foundation of learning is NON-EXISTENT. I felt compelled to sign my son up for Kumon ($300 a month) to supplement his education. That's how BAD the school is. Last quarter my son got a 56 in Math. A 56! I checked Infinite Parent portal and saw that my son had 9 zeros. I asked my son why he didn't complete the assignments to which he said, "I did, you helped me with them." He showed those "missed assignments" to me and sure enough they were completed BY THE DUE DATE. Apparently, my son did not walk up to the teacher and show the completed work to him. My son said that he tried to show the assignments to the teacher but was told "since your group is being so rowdy, you all can sit in your seats until it's time to go to the next block." I asked the teacher about this, and his response was "well, they were being loud and I had to focus on getting ready for the next group." I brought this up to the administration, provided her with my son's folder WITH the completed work and she told me that since he "attempted to complete the work" that entitled him to a 50% grade for all of those assignments. I asked WHY would he not get full credit for those assignments and have not heard a thing back. I'm so DONE with this school. Thankfully he was accepted into a lottery for a better choice school. I am so thankful that this nightmare can finally be OVER.I can go oonnnnnn and onnnn about the crap that goes on here you have NO idea. I beg you, if you can help it, please don't send your child here. And if you have no choice because it's the home school- put them in the lottery ASAP.Parent Review2mo ago21 Reviews
