7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AveragePerformance oriented and test score driven. ( $) Very little emphasis on character building (integrity, compassion, respect) Students are celebrated for grades and attendance however; character, talents, strengths, individual qualities, social and life skills are not promoted and rarely recognized. Current principle is very dedicated and down to earth and some teachers are kind, caring, and go above and beyond to create a positive learning environment for a fun academic expierience. Administration communicates and sends updates effectively and promptly. Front office staff is very unapproachable, inattentive, and rude. After school program staff scream at children like they are in bootcamp or a detention center.School is lacking in diversity and offers limited programs ( academic oriented and some sport ) but no arts clubs, music, stem, culture, life skills etc. Demographic is mostly all white, middle to high class. Political and "who you know" at times. Parents can "pay" for their child to be "principle for a day" rather than the school provide an opportunity such as this to a child who demonstrates leadership skills or as an incentive for goal achievement.(multiple) Families have been told by teachers that their child is "ADD", "spacy", and have even recommended ADD medication! inappropriate. Instead, children are on overdrive & pushed so hard for the test scores ( = school gets money) that they become disregulated during the day without opportunities for movement and sensory activities that would provide co- or self regulation. The location of the school is safe, convenient, and pick up / drop off systems are organized, efficient, and consistent. ( ***however, the after school program has no sign out procedure for children, they would let anyone pick up your child and don't know if they are there or not when you arrive. The child could have been picked up by a stranger and they wouldn't be able to tell you who and when) School is clean and organized. Fun holiday programs are planned for children throughout the year. Homework is appropriate - but may depend on the teacher. Schedules are structured and consistent. This is a review of 2017-2019...As always - a child's education, growth, development and safety require a collaboration between home and school. It takes a village!Parent Review6y ago2 Reviews - Lone Oak Elementary School
