The bullying is so distracting for children in my experience it impacts their ability to learn and is not taken seriously. Physical and sexual assault from one child to another with repercussions as simple as a paternity conversation but nothing more. We will be leaving and do not recommend this school.

I used to be a student here and honestly my experience was horrible, these teachers don’t care about the students and ignore all students if they need help. I have had times when teachers have talked about kids to other teachers and just been completely rude to others. The teachers only care about them selves and the students can not be themselves. The teachers are not motivational and are very self centered. This school makes you have to be friends with everyone and pushes your kid to be a different kid. The middle school is absolutely horrible and does not prepare you for high school. If you are thinking about putting your kid in this school, DON’T!!

If you are searching for a school for your child, I strongly suggest Sacred Heart Model School. My children are both graduates of Sacred Heart Model School. The student to teacher ratio is one of the best you will find in Louisville. The teachers are dedicated and caring. The teachers follow the IB practices and encourage ALL students to become thinkers. The curriculum includes courses at the Sacred Heart School for the Arts. Therefore, educating the whole child. This offers opportunities to children who may not otherwise learn to play an instrument, perform in a play or dance. Our son, currently in college, recently shared that he did not know he was smart till he went to college. He was always surrounded with teachers and peers who challenged him. The Ursuline Core values of Community, Service, Leadership and Reverence are evident throughout campus. SHMS encourages all families and students to get involved. All students have service requirements. The Leadership opportunities on campus are incredible for all ages. The Catholic identity is evident in instruction and decisions made on behalf of the greater good for the community at large.

This is a good school. I went there from 1st grade through 8th grade, and it was fun. I really enjoyed the teachers who were really supportive and good people, but that doesn't mean there's problems. My biggest qualm with HLS is that they don't really do a good job when it comes to bullying, not physical but verbal bullying from my experience even just the slightest difference or something outside of the what's cool can make you a target, I came under that bullying myself and that is why I chose to leave, and they were way to relaxed about punishment for when those bullies were found out. I also disliked that they would not allow me to spread my wings and give me other options for classes. I big thing I should warn you about HLS is that it is an extremely repetitive curriculum, and it gets really boring after 8 years of learning the same thing over and over, burning out most of the students, they also don't have many clubs or form of student government which makes the experience a little dry and not fun. I don't think they do a very good job of dealing with children with mental disabilities, everyone is treated as though they are at the same academic level, and it is easy to fall behind. The best part though is the house system and that makes it fun but it's still nothing like the kind of stuff other schools have. Also learning Latin and Greek doesn't really help you in modern society, so maybe chose a school other than HLS if you want your child to learn a foreign language and not a dead one. But overall, you're getting a good education, and if you want your child to have a good Christian background this is a good choice, but just keep in mind what I said. HLS prepared me well for high school and I think it was a really good decision to change schools for high school and I would recommend that for others.
