"I live here. It is safe, and walking distance (about a mile or less) to dozens of amenities, including the bay front, Selby Botanical Gardens, Burns Court, Downtown Farmer's Market, Main Street, two movie theaters, tons of restaurants, and Payne Park. A kayak ramp at the end of the street (just a few yards away) leads to Hudson Bayou and Sarasota Bay."
