The Excelsior is a residential neighborhood that’s south of the Mission, Bernal Heights, and Glen Park.
It’s located along Mission Street, six miles from downtown. The Balboa Park and Glen Park BART stations are both a few blocks away.

Between the 101 and 280 freeways, the Excelsior is also well located for commuting south to Silicon Valley.
Most homes in the neighborhood were built in the 1950s, and include duplexes, apartments, and single-family homes with backyards.

John McLaren Park, the second largest park in the city after Golden Gate Park, is adjacent to the Excelsior.
McLaren Park’s 318 acres include more than seven miles of walking trails.
Right next to McLaren Park is Crocker Amazon Park, with five soccer fields, a playground, and tennis, basketball, and Bocce courts.
Murals throughout the neighborhood are part of a coordinated effort to celebrate artists and curb graffiti.

The casual restaurants and ethnic markets along Mission Street draw a crowd of mostly locals.
