Sci-Tech is a school that is for kiddos that are outside the box of learning, and also for parents tired of (general) school districts teaching "boxes." My child has been there for 5 years and wishes he could do middle and high school there. He will be graduating this year from Sci-Tech. My son was a "normal" learner and very smart. ADHD kicked in and he started to get in more trouble at the school he was in. Not serious troubles, like suspensions, but being sent to the principal and such. I love charter schools as my older children had all been in charter schools (in another dist). So looking into Sci-Tech, I knew this would probably be the best fit for him, I was right. It's in the country, which I had growing up, and I felt this might also be good for him. They have bussing to/from the school. Eventually my son had a 504, then an IEP. The services and how they work with each student is amazing!! Where he needs help, they provide it to keep him as close to his grade level as possible. They don't just "skip" over him and expect him to be with the class. They know he needs extra help in that one subject. The other subjects he excels way above his grade level. Not every child at Sci-Tech needs extra help. Some are there simply because the parents want them there. Onto the teachers and support staff, they are like extensions to our families (I say this for all the parents I know). We love them. Many of the teachers MOVE TO Sci-Tech from regular dist schools because they saw the ability to do things differently to help the students. They have more flexibility. The field trips at Sci-Tech are amazing! Sometimes the whole school goes!! I will be so sad when my son graduates from Sci-Tech. I know he will too. But what they gave to him is the readiness and confidence to head to middle school and to do new things because he might just succeed!! Look into Sci-Tech if you want incredible teachers and unwavering support for your child's education. If they read this, listen to my son, it will be too late for him, but do middle school and high school too!!!
