8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThere are several positives about Wynton Blount Elementary School: (1) they try to provide safe, family-friendly events for their students such as a Trunk or Treat and Spring Fling; (2) they boast some incredible teachers and specialists who are invested in their students’ academic success; and (3) the very responsive and competent office/medical staff as great examples. However, because of our previous year’s experience (2025-2026), I feel an obligation to share our three most pressing concerns for this school to help other parents make informed choices. 1. Digital Safety & Internet OversightMy child, as well as other students in her class, had recurring access to age-inappropriate content on school-issued devices, including horror games, links to YouTube, and gaming platforms featuring open international chat functions (unfiltered Google Sites proxy links). Administration provided only superficial assurances after meeting in person and follow-up emails. However, I did learn from our meeting that the district is also very slow to report to school administrators when black-listed content is accessed on their premises. This is a systemic issue reaching far beyond the school itself.2. Chronic Lack of CommunicationThere is a widespread breakdown in parent-teacher communication. Multiple inquiries regarding grades and basic field trip questions went completely ignored for weeks at a time. Between March through the end of the school year, five separate written messages submitted through the school's designated app directly to my child’s teacher were left unanswered. I was repeatedly forced to escalate basic questions to the front office simply to receive answers and even so, one of my questions was forwarded to the principal by office staff and still went unanswered.3. Classroom ClimateIt was clear in my child’s classroom that “management through intimidation” was often relied upon. For example, following an incident where a teacher slammed a classroom door with enough force to jam it shut—locking herself out and young students inside—children had to physically force the door open. Rather than addressing the loss of control, young students were blamed for the reaction. My child requested that I did not report the incident to the administration because she was fearful of reprisal by her teacher.Parent Review1mo ago25 Reviews - James W Wilson Junior Elementary School
