This is a great school. Teachers are amazing and work is challenging.

Overall experience, this school is not what it is cracked up to be. I went all four years & I had LOTS of issues not only with staff but students as well. I'll describe more in detail below.Learning - 5/10Tech High is mostly honors classes meaning that if you don't make good grades, you will be dismissed. This I understand because it is a tech school & they only want people there if they're willing to learn. The only student driven projects are when everyone has to make a "capstone" to present towards the end of the year. I had conflicts with my first year of capstone since I was unable to attend. My 3rd & 4th year of capstone gave me more creative freedom since I was able to present more of what I was passionate about. Overall, a lot of students dread classes & want more engaging activities.Teaching - 6/10Some teachers I got along with, some not at all. A huge part of why I had went to this school was for the Commercial Arts program & when Junior year came around, the teacher who taught us didn't like the fact that certain things I did pertained to what I liked & it wasn't to "his standards". This led to me having a HUGE art block rendering me unable to create anymore digital art (in the design aspect causing failing grades). I also had a hard time opening up to certain teachers because I just did not trust them (stemming from my trust issues back in middle school)S/E Sup. - 3/10There are so many students that have problems & when you go to talk to someone about it, usually nothing is ever done or it gets brushed off. Again I had trust issues in the past so trying to open up to anyone about it was a joke. SE - 4/10I was a student who had an IEP which was great but the issue with having something like this is that you have to constantly remind your teachers that you have one or THEY WON'T ACCOMMODATE. Shout out to all of my case managers, I love you guys you were amazing & thank you for letting me be able to trust you. Safety - 8/10Safety is fine, I never really had any issues with this except the fact that I was doxxed by another student in either my Junior or my Senior year (can't remember which) & no one in my family was notified until I said something. I threatened to leave because I didn't feel safe but no one cared. FE - 3/10Parents are welcomed but its not common. When I was doxxed MY PARENTS WERE NEVER NOTIFIED! The incident was just shoved under the table with no personal call home. This made my parents and myself LIVID.

The principal, Dr Ovalle, is a great leader and has turned this school around! My child is in the leadership academy and advanced classes; no issues with bullying or the usual middle school shenanigans we were worried about when sending a kid into 6th grade. Dr Ovalle is strict with the kids when needed but also tries to make things fun, and really focuses on parental engagement.
