2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFirst and foremost, the state test score data is incorrect. Govalle staff, parents and students worked so diligently to help students raise their academic standardized test scores, even though we understand the focus on tests should never be a school's #1 priority. In fact, Govalle out performed or was on par with all the area local charter schools (East Austin prep, UT Elementary, IDEA, KIPP) , even though Govalle serves 3x as many kiddos with special education needs. In the midst of that kind of pressure, Govalle manages to provide fine arts experiences for all kids, including musical performances and art exhibitions for each grade level, in addition to collaborations with Paramount Theatre and the UT Shakespeare outreach program. Govalle provides trauma-informed care for all students, and includes a junior counselor program. We have a dual-language program pilot for Prek-1st (next year includes 2nd grade) because they believe multilingualism can benefit students in the global economy and as compassionate citizens of the world. Govalle continues to build on STEM educational experiences with Engineering is Elementary curriculum, STEM building challenges, Science Fair and collaborations with the Thinkery. They provide field experiences in both the fine arts and sciences. They have a Dyslexia therapist onsite to provide strategic interventions, as well as a school psychologist available for the children. But most of all Govalle respects families and is an open campus most of the year, allowing parents to walk their children to class, eat lunch with them, and celebrate birthdays at the end of the day.Parent Review7y ago5 Reviews - Martin Middle School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI used to work here from 2017-2020 and when I heard the news that this school is closing, I was so happy! The students with the exception of like 20%, are the absolute worst people I’ve ever had to teach. They’re rude, violent, very very low IQ, and their parents are no different. The school is an entire safety concern and admin will do absolutely nothing to help you or your child if they are bullied, beaten up and in fact, will probably cover it up and blame you. The academics are incredibly low, the students refuse to learn and would rather fight, argue, scream and resist any type of education. When Covid hit, I was so glad to have gotten away from these students and I was even more thankful that the good students were set free from them as well. I am glad this school is closing, it’s underperforming for years and I hope the school is demolished and the land is put to better use.Thank you Austin ISD for making the correct decision!Other Review4mo ago7 Reviews - Eastside Memorial High School

"A close to key conveniences- grocery, pharmacy , clothes shopping , library. etc. Good walking but no dry cleaner, bank etc. Quality Public transportation is lacking . This is not a real traditional large city . It is a sunbelt city grafted in to an older smaller community ."

"This neighborhood is not near public transportation. During peak hours, 7:30am-9am and 3:45-6:30 it can take 45-50 minutes to get downtown. It’s just 20 minutes when traffic is flowing. "

"Super close to the freeway and honestly tucked away so hardly any traffic ever and I love it and would definitely recommend the area. The only downside is is sometimes the homeless population gets a little out of control and can be quite aggressive. They also dumpster dive very frequently, but for the most part, they are really nice and respectful."

"Food truck really close walkable distance to anything and everything. Friendly neighborhood. I’ve met half the people on my block. A lot of people walk their dogs. It’s a family friendly neighborhood. I see the neighbors walking with their children and their families are comfortable visiting them here in this neighborhood. I feel safe in this neighborhood. It’s a quiet neighborhood. There’s the capital Metro rail and it’s not loud. It’s Neighbourhood friendly. I recently had a tree farm in my yard and someone visiting a neighbor on my block, called the police department for me and notified me right away during the storm."
