6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy experience with this district left me with serious concerns about student safety, accountability, and transparency. As a child, concerns were raised about a school employee who had access to students. My family reported those concerns and submitted a written request regarding this employee, but we did not feel that our concerns were taken seriously.Years later, after learning that numerous former students from multiple states had come forward with similar allegations involving the same individual, I began seeking answers about how complaints were handled. I submitted public records requests asking for investigative records, disciplinary records, and internal communications related to this employee. The district informed me that no such records existed. I was also told that the district's email servers had been decommissioned in 2021. When I requested documentation regarding the decommissioning and destruction of those records, I was informed that no certificates of destruction, retention logs, vendor records, chain-of-custody documentation, or similar records could be located. As someone seeking answers, I found this extremely troubling. The absence of records made it impossible to determine how concerns were addressed, what discussions may have taken place, or whether proper procedures were followed.Parents trust schools to protect children and to maintain transparency when concerns are raised. When records that could help explain past decisions are unavailable, it undermines public confidence and makes accountability difficult. My hope is that future families never have to spend years searching for answers only to be told that the records no longer exist. Every child deserves a safe learning environment, and every parent deserves confidence that concerns will be taken seriously and preserved appropriately.Other Review1mo ago9 Reviews - Lake Dallas High School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBoth of my kids have attended LDHS and have been very successful in their programs. There are a lot of extra curriculars offered and clubs to join. I believe my kids did so well because they were involved in the Band Program. This gave them a sense of purpose and responsibility. It also allowed them to make a lot of friends and have a sense of belonging. The band staff truly works hard each year to make the program successful and give the kids lots of opportunities to shine. LDHS also has some really fantastic teachers. My kids didn't always agree, but they were successful in their classes as long as they put in the work. Are there better schools? Probably - this is a small district, but I think there is a real sense of inclusion and belonging for the most part. If you kid takes AP, Honors, DC, etc - they will have a great time. There are some really fantastic students in this school district. Is there fighting and vaping? yes - it's annoying. I'm annoyed, my kids are annoyed, but it's an ongoing problem for most schools. I've always felt safe with the communications from the school and the on campus police support. One of the officers even plays Tuba with the band during some games which I think really builds relationships between the officers and the kids.Parent Review2mo ago12 Reviews - Lake Dallas Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOverall pretty great. The ELA Honors teacher and the science teacher are amazing. They're full of kindness and know how to do their job very well.A few things however, is the internal biases some lunch teachers have. (if you're a black person you're more of a threat, if they're crying they're immediately the victim, etc.) and the transphobia. There's multiple students (obviously not gonna name them lol) but worst of all, even the teachers are like that. Especially the PE coaches and band teachers.Following that topic, as a trans student here, I do not feel welcomed nor safe. The PE coach does not understand that I am a trans boy, but rather thinks I'm a male crossdresser. (Normally, that would be a compliment but god. You're a teacher. Please just think for two seconds). Also, I'm not allowed in the male lockerrooms (Obviously.) And I keep getting either physically attacked (Shoving into doors, getting my head banged on lockers, etc.) or mentally attacked (Getting slurs thrown at me, manipulating me into thinking I was staring at someone, etc). The teachers haven't caught on yet.Lastly, the equipment is pretty good as far as a school goes. The track is nice, and they even have badminton rackets! The water fountains definitely could be better, but they always suck anyways. In conclusion, it's just an average school. I wouldn't take a minority kid here, but c'mon. It's one of the best options in the area. (Betty Myers is kinda goated.) Just give it a shot.Student Review2y ago25 Reviews - Check out schools near Royal oaks Pl.

"landowner not taking care of property, sewage backed up, water gets turned off with no notice. Running mobile home owners off to cater more to transients. Becoming more and more unsafe."

"Our community is fairly quiet it’s close to the lake and there tend to be a lot of critters that creep in the evenings. But there’s access to a really nice park everything is easily available "

"If you like quiet, friendly and safe neighborhoods, this is the place for you. However if you like parks, recreation and boating this is also the place to be. Lake Lewisville is within walking distance and features several boat ramps and parks. Many families who live here have children, many are retired, some are just starting out. "

"My family has lived in Hickory Creek for 10 years. We enjoy being close to the lake and the many parks that surround it- but still being close to the city (where I work). There's a lot of "nature" in the area (even some good hiking trails in the state parks), and it makes for a nice retreat in the evenings and weekends. Not a lot of nightlife nearby (though there is Sneaky Pete's), but that hasn't been an issue while raising kids. Now that the kids are out of the house, the wife and I have enjoyed kayaking on the lake, walking through the neighborhood, and discovering more restaurants in Denton and towards Dallas. The I-35 construction hasn't slowed my trip to work as much as I feared- and when it is done, Hickory Creek will be even "closer" to Dallas."
