5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe teacher and staff are constantly taking sides and all this school looks for is to try and pin a student to the corner and get him/her in trouble with whatever stupid “rule” they come up with. Whenever a student or parent speaks up they either get made fun of by the administrators or they get talked down on like lessers. Highly recommend that you don’t enroll your kids inside this schoolStudent Review1y ago9 Reviews - Rombout Middle School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe raised 4 children in Beacon and all went to Rombout. It is a decent school, but it is a middle school; the hormones are raging and the students are beginning to break out from their parent-controlled childhoods. I noticed that most reviews are close to 10 years old. Beacon has come a long way in ten years, and Rombout is improving along with Beacon. As another reviewer noted, Beacon is multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, and multi-economic status; a lot like the U.S. If your children do well in school, they will do well at Rombout. Shielding them from the various aspects of society is not going to help them, and perhaps, they can benefit those less fortunate than themselves through their interaction (now I'm sounding like a Democrat, and I'm far from that :) ). I bet it would be hard to find a community where the middle school is rated higher than either the elementary or high schools.Parent Review3y ago4 Reviews - Sargent School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSargent is a caring and supportive school with great teachers. Our son has so far attended pre-K and Kindergarten and he is thriving. He loves his teachers, and his academic and social skills are developing very well. We'd like to see stronger arts ed and foreign language instruction at Sargent starting in K. The PTO is actively working with the school to increase resources and enrichment activities. The NY standardized test scores are not a good reflection of the quality of this school, and more a comment on the current mess of NY state testing policies. If you move to Beacon, definitely consider houses zoned for Sargent. You won't be disappointed!Parent Review10y ago10 Reviews - Check out schools near Route 9D.

"There are many friendly dogs and dog owners here, and there are dog-friendly parks and trails within a few minutes' drive. People who let uncontrolled dogs roam off-leash, however, are not popular. "

"Commutes aren’t bad. There’s a lot of highway access to the area. It’s also easy to stay in town for non-job needs like shopping and restaurants. "

"It’s very walkable to get all my basic needs. Although some things are overpriced in the shops on Main Street, I like that I don’t have to go far for a pharmacy, bank, groceries, print shop, ups store or a hardware store. "

"I drive about 35 minutes to work. There is often a lot of traffic on Rt 9d as there is only one lane and it backs up when the train let's out and also when there is construction on the Newburgh Beacon bridge which is apparently quite often. Beacon is growing and they need to expand on the infrastructure of roads to accommodate the mass influx of people or it will be all too city like before we know it. "

"Quiet. Friendly. Area is great. Lots of restaurants and things to do. There is a yearly car show with a great turn out. We are right near I-84 and taconic to get anywhere easily. Neighboring towns and cities have a lot to do for night life"

"Beacon has become over crowded .. rents are too high even NYC now has cheaper rents .. you can’t go anywhere any longer that’s quiet . Schools are a mess , and main st is packed with tourists with ill manners on the weekends . New buildings have gone up all over the place for the past 10 years so there is never a quiet day without construction going on somewhere . Crowded parks and the mountain is now an attraction that is over run with city people with their stupid phones and garbage. "
