I went to Highland from kindergarten to my senior year, and I would say that my biggest criticism are the students rather than the staff. I am a first generation American, from two African parents, and from the time I was 5 years old, the students never let me forget that I wasn’t one of them. While I was being bullied in elementary school for my ethnicity, the principal and teachers turned a blind eye and even went as far as saying that “I didn’t know what racism was” and accused me for making false claims. I would advise ethnic families to enroll their students into diverse schools for the sake of their self image and mental wellness. The education is definitely good, but the social aspect, especially for children of color like myself, is not there.

Esta escuela no está orientada a familias hispanohablantes. Las familias hispanohablantes son muy desaprobadas. Tenía una cita para hablar sobre mi hijo con un miembro del personal hispanohablante. Esperé una hora y el traductor no llegó. La escuela no cumple sus promesas y despide a las familias hispanohablantes.

Hinckley Elementary has wonderful fifth grade teachers. They really care about the students and spend the extra time making sure they understand the material.
