Our son started sixth grade here and we withdrew him before the Thanksgiving Holidays. The teasing/bullying/fights are real, and the teachers/administrators aren't on top of it. They'll give ISS and/or suspension, regardless of what transpires in any incident, and your child will tote a write-up as generic as "Your son/daughter struck another student", without any context/input/explanation as to what truly happened. And this is primarily because they don't know what truly happened nor do they care to know. The principal is new this year and, although she seems cordial and polite through email, her communication is just as poor as the 5 or 6 teachers whom our son was assigned. She'll respond promptly and thank you for your thoughts, but she'll provide nothing helpful or fruitful from an administrative or productive standpoint. For example, my wife called her on December 17th to discuss our son's write up. She told my wife that she would call her back, but she never did. I emailed her to try and solicit the same, and she responded with "let me check with student services regarding your request, and I'll get back to you". I never heard from her until I emailed her again asking for an update, and with that, she responded within minutes saying that "she's sorry but she can't help me and please reach out if I need anything else". My wife had a similar experience after leaving a message for the Vice Principal/Counselor asking for a return call, but she never called my wife back. Out of the 5 teachers/subjects that our son had, one teacher would consistently respond to our emails as parents. The others would respond periodically or never at all. When they did respond, they typically wouldn't answer/address our questions. If your child is out due to illness and misses work, forget it. You are doomed. The teachers are not helpful in assisting you on what was missed and/or how to make-up work or assignments. Even if you have a well-behaved and studious student, I still cannot recommend this school. It is an environment that is setup for failure at every juncture. Our son had zero disciplinary issues in his entire career at Mansfield Elementary and, out of the other 6 students whom he attended Mansfield with, 4 of them are no longer at Indian Creek including him. Look into home school programs- Georgia Connections Academy or Ga Cyber Academy. Newton County Schools are trash.

I have had a student at Rocky plains for three years. We have always liked the school. However, the new principal, Dr. Body, is phenomenal. He has already surpassed our expectations. Grandparents day was a welcomed addition and a lot of fun. My son talks about how much he is enjoying school and what he is learning. We couldn’t be happier!

It was difficult transitioning my child to public school from private school but the teachers and administrators have been so supportive. The staff really care about students and the administrators are really doing their best to make Alcovy High a great place for everyone.
