9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI un-enrolled my first grade daughter from the school Monday May 18th. There had been consistent physical bullying with the same student since December. With many failed attempts to get the teachers to properly support my child and hear her cries for help. The teacher began to single my child out. Grabbing her at recess infront of her friends confronting her about a message I had sent stating my child has express she does not feel like her teacher likes her or cares abour her. That was finally my last straw. Of course our children can deal with bullies anywhere. But when your teacher the person who is supposed to make you feel safe becomes the bully it leads the 6 year old to no longer want to go to school. A kid who was once so eager to learn was now begging to stay home or calling every other day to come home. When I asked for a meeting with the principal I was met with "well that's just her approach and I've seen it work for other families" or my favorite "can we just stay future oriented" which is just a fancy way of saying let's not dwell on the past. There is 0 accountability at this school. 2 weeks prior to this my 14 year old daughter was knocked out by a boy. There was no proper safety protocol in place instead of checking her for a concussion right away they decided to have her sit a room for 30 minutes filling out an incident report and wouldn't let her call me. (The principal was supposed to get back to me about this incident and still has not). I went to Bridger for my whole elementary experience, and loved every year of it. This is not the same great school it once was. I will say I think PPS as a whole is so lost and broken. But I would never in good faith recommend this school to anyone I know. My 6 year old daughter has been so traumatized by this experience. After seeing the other reviews it seems there is an ongoing theme at this school. This school year alone has some of the worst reviews. I hope someone actually takes actionParent Review1mo ago15 Reviews - Harrison Park School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Averagehonestly i really like this school so far. ive only been here a year but it seems really nice so far, contrary to what the data says. it seems to be out of date, at the very least the name is, as its now mcdaniel. the teachers are great, the building is super nice and new, its kept fairly clean, and there have only been a couple fights ive seen or heard about. i know franklin high school has had a lot more fights this year than we have. im not sure why, but for some reason the grading standards for core classes are lower here than some other schools like franklin. for example, at franklin you need 90% for an A, whereas here you only need 87.5%. that could be due to the school being in a low income area, if thats the case then thats a little messed up to expect less from a low income neighborhood. the french department could use a little work, theres one french teacher who is very under qualified. i could have learned more on duolingo for a couple months than a year of his class. he only learned french from being in a french speaking country in africa for a little bit and doesnt know a lot of spelling and grammar. my friend who went to le monde french immersion school has to correct the teacher here, not an uncommon experience for other students from that school. overall, i like the school and the atmosphere. it is on 82nd which is a little sketchy but i still feel safe there. also, the school lunch is surprisingly good, and if you have money a lot of food is accessible by foot or bus nearby.Student Review1y ago30 Reviews - Check out schools near Levy code 846.

"I drive to work and have no issues at all. I work by Beaverton and my commute is no problem. Sometimes traffic is a little slow but nothing compared to where I came from, New York "

"Very dog friendly. Lots of respectful dog owners walk their dogs and pick up after their dogs. Dogs stay on leashes and are mindful of barking. "

"Neighborhood streets are great for dog walking. However, broken glass of the main roads is not uncommon. "

"I drive so it’s easy access to the i5 and even the back roads are only about 17 min to downtown. Buses are also easily available and very near the max station. "

"Some people who are parents love it, some can’t stand it. It’s a diverse community (as Portland goes) and has all kinds of people in the hood. The schools can be good if you take the right attitude, some people move out because of the schools. Who can say? "

"Walkable neighborhood with all the diversity of portland. Great location between Mt. Tabor, Rocky Butte, and Powell Butte. Rich tradition of activism and civic participation, with the classic feeling of neglect from the city and state govs. "

"I lived here from 2006 to 2008, at the dawn of this neighborhood's renewal. I loved the laid-back atmosphere in the neighborhood: lots of homeowners and friendly people out and about. Every year I come home to Portland to visit family, and I am amazed at how much Montavilla has grown up! There are great restaurants, coffee shops and locally owned boutiques. The Academy Theater is absolutely wonderful (great movies, vintage charm plus pizza and beer!), as is the delicious pie and coffee at Bi Partisan cafe. Mt. Tabor Park is right out the back door, so dog owners, trail runners, tennis players or picnickers all have really great green spaces to do their outdoorsy things. Plus, Montavilla is still less expensive than the Hawthorne/Belmont areas of SE, yet only about 10 minutes drive or 15 minutes by bicycle to all of the greatness in those more trendy neighborhoods. Montavilla is basically awesome. "

"I love Montavilla! Stark St is buzzing with cafes like Bipartisan and Pastry Girl, a Farmer's Market, great places to eat like Country Cat, Ya Hala and The Observatory and a fantastic second-run cinema called The Academy serving Flying Pie pizza and micro-brew. The area has many bike routes leading to Mt Tabor park and the Spring Water corridor. Mt Tabor is a short walk and has free summer concerts, a gorgeous play ground, dog park, running and walking trails, tennis courts, basketball courts and picnic areas. Overall I highly recommend this area for the livability, walkability and access to downtown, it is very family-freindly with a ton of families."
