10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is such a gem! It's nestled into a tight knit community and goes above and beyond to ensure every child gets the best possible experience. The principal is fantastic, the teachers are kind and the vibes are just good all around.I am volunteering often and see the day to day school routines from the inside, and all I can find behind the curtains is a safe, open minded and caring learning environment.I'm beyond grateful my kids are going to this fantastic school.Parent Review2y ago13 Reviews - Sellwood Middle School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is horrible. I’m a current student so I think I can weigh in here more than parents. So many horrible teachers and students. Teachers do nothing to stop the bullying even though we are “no place for hate” I am honestly depressed every morning because I have to back. I don’t know what their hiring process is but they need a new system because hiring people who don’t like kids is interesting. Don’t get me wrong some teachers are nice but they problems out way the good. Don’t send your kids here!Student Review1y ago7 Reviews - Cleveland High School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe moved from out of state to Portland and researched schools before we came. We chose Cleveland because of the choir program and theater program. The website boasted 3 plays a year, etc. It was a bait and switch. We got there and the theater teacher was suspended for mysterious reasons and no productions only a substitute teacher that knew nothing about theater. After being an excellent student all her life my daughter started to have problems with her work and started hanging out with a bad crowd (school does nothing about kids leaving the grounds). This school only cares about kids who do well without effort. We spoke to guidance counselor at the end of 9th because we were concerned with slipping grades and some skipped classes and she told us not to worry and recommended a private academic coach, who cost us $2000 and did not help! I literally begged the choir teacher to give my child extra encouragement because I knew if she quit singing that we would lose her. Teacher did nothing. Only interested in the stars of the class. To make a long story short, this school grossly failed my child. After I insisted on an IEP out of desperation, they were slightly interested - interested in getting her off of their books! They pushed us to go to the Community College program, which was not suited to her needs at all and she failed it. Covid hit. She never graduated. Thanks, Cleveland!!!There are some GREAT teachers at this school, and some not so great but still very compassionate. The vice-principal (the principal was a revolving door when we were there) and counseling staff are the worst! They actually assigned a counselor to my child that was the mother of the student that caused my child a lot of grief. Completely clueless. The neighborhood is pretty awful also, if you are unfamiliar with Portland look at the setting the school is in - near Cleveland lots of camps and drug use in the park across the street, and strip bars less than a block away. No healthy food restaurants anywhere. Do not send your impressionable sensitive child here!Parent Review3y ago13 Reviews - Check out schools near Levy code 201.

"Brentwood Darlington is a transitional neighborhood. Much better off living in adjacent neighborhoods like Woodstock. "

"Brentwood Darlington has quite a few sketchy people who are residents, hang out or just pass through. The adjacent neighborhood of Woodstock is far superior. "

"There are 2 dog parks in the neighborhood. One is fenced, but in poor condition. The other is not fenced and also in poor condition. The city of Portland does not do a good job in taking care of their parks. It’s actually rather embarrassing. "

"A super cute, walking neighborhood with good restaurants, a Starbucks, New Seasons, Fish Market, Grand Central Bakery, and a large organic food section in the local Safeway. Woodstock is a very up and coming neighborhood. "

"I have lived in the Woodstock area for almost 10 years. It started out as a quiet 'older' neighborhood but within a few years had many 'young' families or couples starting out move in. This is the neighborhood where everyone watches out for each other and families share meals with each other. Most of the residents on the street take pride in their home and neighborhood (Keeping a clean yard, mowed lawn, picking up leaves, etc). It's very common to have neighbors standing outside talking to each other, greeting people passing through the neighborhood. It really is a nice area for both young and older people."
