9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy experiences dealing with Hugh Gallagher Elementary and it's staff have been positive. We performed copious research into the schools and school districts during our housing search. Anyone can look up a schools report card online and it is a great first step. Beyond that, I wanted to know the long term outcomes of rhese students, the graduation rates, how many went on to college and had what type of careers. I am not a snob. I wanted to give my children and grandchildren every opportunity whereas certian choices may have limited them instead. I completed exhausting research searching as far South as Markleeville, Smith Valley, Topaz; East well into California, West to Yerrington, Silver Springs, Fallon, Fernley, and North up as the region around Pyramid Lake and across Westerly into California in areas like Truckee and Lake Tahoe. I researched all of the local School Districts in Washoe, Douglas, Carson... When you buy a home, you are also slating your children's educational system and future possibilities so I knew I couldn't afford to make a mistake. Of course I did find some good schools here and there however I was most impressed with Storey County and more specifically the Virginia City Schools. I went the final step and visited, unannounced, as if I were any other parent there to deal with school bussiness. After all of this I was very comfortable purchasing a home slated to this school district, these specific schools, more specifically Hugh Gallagher Elementry.Enrolling a child here is painless and streamlined. The staff is educated, friendly and on task to educate our children. Furthermore they care and that is something you cannot buy.Parent Review6y ago4 Reviews - Virginia City Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageGenerally it's the parents who have an axe to grind who comment. The lack of comments show most parents are very happy with this school! I for one think it's great. Tiny class sizes, lots of attention from teachers. Efficient teaching methods leading to minimal homework so kids also have time to be kids. Strong science and math spike. My child has excelled in this environment. All the kids seem friendly and happy, which in itself is a good endorsement.Parent Review10y ago2 Reviews - Check out schools near Globe Rd.

"There are families from different ethnicities and ages, I like that from my neighborhood. People are kind and it’s safe. I can walk with my kids and feel safe. There’s not traffic noise and is very peaceful to live here. I can’t wait to see the freeway construction done, because when freeway opens completely everything would be more easier for everyone."

"There is a nice park with a trail to walk. The park has a large open grass area that is used for soccer and softball. It’s good for playing fetch but advised to pick up any presents your dog leaves so kids don’t step in it while playing. "

"People drive way too fast throughout this area. A bit of a “rat race” if you will. Lower crime. Decent schools. Lots of close, fast food places and some dining. Housing has gotten really expensive for places that really aren’t all that nice. Decent amount of parks and churches throughout the area. Short drive to downtown, but not close enough to walk, although there are more and more homeless people making their way to the intersections and parking lots in the area."
