5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageJuarez Elementary is a great school. Our family has been part of Juarez through two kids now and changes made on campus since our beginning have. We. For the better! Teachers are dedicated to teaching students and since switching to a 90/10 model in 2022 for Spanish dual-immersion the growth in language acquisition from the younger kids is amazing. Admin, teachers and staff are always available for questions and support. It’s a smaller sized school and it feels more like a community than kids been shuffled through a school. Juarez also has a great variety of events and activities on campus and after school, some held by the school itself but mostly by their parent organization (PTO). The PTO is at all events, supporting the students and families. There are some fundraising events but also so many no cost events that all families feel included. We really enjoy being at Juarez and have attended other neighborhood schools for summer academics and events and nothing quite compares.Parent Review2y ago18 Reviews - Taft Middle School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is NOT a review for DMD in particular. This is a general review for Kearny Educational Complex based on feedback from former and current students. Kearny has 4 small schools. 8th graders are funnelled into specific pathways depending on the small school. This can be a lot of pressure for students since most of them don't know what they want to have as a career yet. If they want to transfer to another small school, you have to have good grades AND the small school you're transferring to has to have space. If there's no space, you're stuck in the small school you're in. Each small school has one counselor. It's really hard to find information on events and updates as each small school operate separately. Their schedule and transcript can be very confusing. Students can take class at a different small school. If you need to retake a class, you need to make sure that the class name is the exact same or the new grade won't replace the old grade. They provide quarter and semester grades. Some 10th, few 11th, most of 12th graders have free period. Most 12th graders graduate a semester early but they highly "encourage" you to enroll to Mesa College for your spring semester of your senior year. If you attend SCC, you can take the most college classes compared to the other small schools who only take a couple or none. There's only one recurring AP class which is AP Computer Science Principles. BST has great internship opportunities for those who wants to be in healthcare. There's also the CNA and EMT programs offered if student has the capacity to do it. BST counselor is not as helpful when you're a senior. EID & SCC counselors will help you look over your college app if you take the initiative to see them. I'm not sure about DMD counselor. EID is project heavy and ideal if student want to make things. EID does not offer a lot of college classes. The principal is very strict and protective of the new building. Students cannot be in the be in the new building unless they have class. There is a study lounge area with tables but students cannot use it. If student is not paying attention, they can get a Spanish class even though they already took the LOTE and completed the requirement. As a parent, please pay attention because it's a waste of time for student, when they could've been taking a more useful class. Imin is great! Not ideal for transfers because you'll get behind. Students see the same people in their classes for most of 4 years.Other Review7mo ago5 Reviews - Kearny School of Biomedical Science and Technology

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school was decent mediocre teachers that just want the paycheck. I remember taking biology here and getting this crazy teacher named Horowitz that to this day I don't know if she was bipolar or hated life or both. So, advice is to just switch out if she even still teaches there, and make sure to follow the very strict dress code.Other Review8y ago3 Reviews - Kearny Engineering Innovation & Design

"Check the neighborhood thoroughly and make sure it is safe for kids and pets. Areas should be accessible. It should be clear and well lit at night as well. Greenery needs to be improved as well. Public transport needs to be improved and the roads too"

"I live right near the tram which is convenient but also right down the street from the 8 and 163, and the beach is a short drive, so it couldn’t be more perfect to me. "

"Easy to Commute to work in downtown SD. Two options how I commute to work. I parked my car at fashion valley then ride either bus 20 or bus 120 to work in downtown SD. If I’m running late I would take the 163 freeway and parked at balboa park then walk or bus to work in downtown SD"

"There are a lot of transient and homeless here. As a woman, I don’t feel comfortable running alone along the river because that’s where they sleep. We have gated underground parking but our car has gotten broken into. "

"I've lived here for 3 years. It's in the middle of everywhere you want to be San Diego. Walking distance from restaurants, the mall, and with easy access to the freeway and the trolley. Neighbors keep to themselves mostly but they've all been very friends. Lots of dogs in the neighborhood and we love the riverwalk."
