5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOverall its a wonderful school district. Like any other small town/district it has its issues, which mostly stems from the mentality of the parents and not the school district itself.Parent Review8y ago6 Reviews - Highland High School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a parent I find HMS offers a solid foundation as far as middle school. This age is particularly difficult and with the increase of cell phones and social media many outside non academic problems come into the classroom. With that said all of my children felt their time at HMS was good. Pro's- Smaller class sizes. Teachers know their students and parents are able to stay in contact with teachers and administrators. As a parent if you are involved and ask the questions or seek help they have open communication. Con's- Not enough variety of electives or advanced classes. Across the district need more arts opportunities (no orchestra). Only 2 languages offered. This age is challenging to begin with need more physical engagement and activities.Parent Review7mo ago4 Reviews - Check out schools near Cotter Rd.

"We either work from home, or we drive. One commute is 10-15 minutes from our neighborhood. The other is 30 minutes. "

"It’s ok if you have a good amount of land, but the roads are dangerous to walk on because they are windy and hilly and there are no sidewalks. "

"The block parties we have every year! Also the community always comes together for holidays and do something fun for the kids. Halloween is special in highland because everyone is ready for the trick or treaters and it’s tradition every year "

"No decent groomers. N the one that is local is extremely rude. Dog came back in almost same shape as I gave it to her and was rude and over priced and took too long."

"Not quite a unique neighborhood. Some people are quite friendly but sometimes that depends on where you see them and who there with. People don’t wave when they drive passed your house even if they live a few houses down the road. Hard enough to drive down the road let alone walk with your kids. The sense of community is depleting yearly. "

"It’s a small quiet town. But with amazing locations nearby. Mountains nearby for fun hikes and more, college town next door if you want to eat at various types of restaurants, then on the other side you can go over the bridge to the suburbs with a mall."

"We moved to Highland as we needed a centralized location for our service business. We are less than 15 minutes to major highways, we can hop on a train to NYC in 10 minutes as well as 2 major hospitals. Major shopping is accessible both in Kingston (20 minutes North) or in Poughkeepsie (10 minutes). Thruway takes you to Paramus and Woodbury in 1 hr. If you are into Hiking and more natural items, New Paltz has tons of activities as well as Northern Ulster. HOWEVER, best of all is now the Walkway, Rail Trail which goes to Hopewell, and Franny Reese park for great walking and hiking along river. History buffs have West Point and all the mansions from the rich of the late 1800's and early 1900's. Nightlife around Highland is very diverse as Poughkeepsie and New Paltz are 10 minutes each way. The beauty of Highand, which is what we love most, is it is a small family oriented town. We can go to Poughkeepsie and wherever, but at the end of the day, we get home to a quiet home to relax. The schools are wonderful, the teachers are hands on, and the community activities for families are never ending. As a local business owner, I can also say businesses are revitalizing, and you will find more Mom & Pop businesses than chain stores in our town (it's nice to walk into a deli and they know you by name!). Hope this helps - A very happy Highland resident. Moving close to the Hamlet offers you quite a bit! However, the mix of homes and residential neighborhoods caters to almost every desire. Best of all, in the fall, drive through the town and you smell the Apples! What more can you ask for! "

"Tucked into a Great Neighborhood, this home offers Privacy and QUIET. Step out the door and you hear nothing but the birds singing. The backyard is completely private. The perennial gardens start with daffodils in the spring and just keep on blooming throughout the year. Located near the end of a dead end road there is little traffic. 6 miles to NYS Thruway in New Paltz, 8 miles to Metro North Train Station and 30 minutes to Stewart International Airport. "
