They lack initiative for the special education department. They have plenty of resources, yet choose not to utilize them enough. Instead of helping the kids that need help, they push them out slowly. If you are of different race as well other than white, good luck. They will claim not to be discriminate, but they will make it harder for you to achieve things. Your child being "different" in any way will paint a target on them by the adults and they cover their tracks. They like to make it like it's this most amazing school yet it's not. It's an under funded, middle of nowhere school that is falling through the cracks. Many families leave it for different schools in the area quite often or rather homeschool for obvious reasons. If you took a child from this school and placed them in the same grade in a proper school, they would be very far behind. Many of the kids struggle with things such as reading and math. If your child is struggling, they won't get the help they need and all the focus will be on the kids that achieve well. There is absolutely bullying at this school, favoritism, and much more. They also cross lines often when it comes to boundaries. They do not change either because most of the school is generational from the area.

Being a 2021 graduate from this school and getting a few years of college under my belt has made me realize how terrible Montello Jr./Sr. High really is. Sure you may be prepared if you're going to flip burgers your whole life, but if you're going to college, you will have a bad time guaranteed. There's a reason not many people leave Montello after they graduate. It's because they prepare you for nothing after high school. Not to mention the students there learn with Chromebooks, it sounds ridiculous but it's true. Being able to do whatever you want on the Chromebooks provided a huge distraction me and my classmates. I cannot believe this is how we teach kids now. Looking at the statistics for my school makes me depressed. Take a guess on how many people went to college after high school in my class? Twelve. Now guess how many are still in college? Five. This goes to show that this school is terrible at getting kids ready for college. If you plan to have your kids be successful, enroll them to any other school around here. Our motto is "Hilltopper Pride", but it should just be "Hilltopper" because there is no pride here...
