8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI really struggle with how winter break is structured here. It’s especially hard for families with shared parenting, because the court splits the schedule that one parent gets the kids only until Christmas, while the other has them for the entire remainder of the break. Since Canal only allows a few days off before Christmas, it consistently works out that I get about five days with the kids, while my ex gets nearly two and a half weeks. It’s upsetting for me and for the kids, who long for more time with their mom.More broadly, the district isn't supportive of single parents who work full-time and are just trying to get by. There’s very little flexibility or understanding, even for something as minor as being a minute late in the morning. I had cancer just a few years ago and I am tired from the treatment and from working 40-50 hour weeks non-stop, with no breaks just so that I can struggle to pay for my medical debt, pay my ex-husband child support, pay for the kids sports, and also be able to buy them everything else they want and need. By contrast, Groveport felt far more parent-friendly and realistic about the challenges families are facing in this economy. Canal often feels out of touch, or structured around wealthy families with resources and stay-at-home parents which simply isn’t and never will be my reality.Parent Review5mo ago4 Reviews - Indian Trail Elementary School

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy children are able to learn in a safe, bully-free environment. My children show their results in learning by their understanding and ability to read, complete projects, do math, and learn history at very young ages. I'm proud my children have the support and love of the amazing teachers in this school.Parent Review9y ago5 Reviews - Canal Winchester High School

"33 in both directions can get congested during rush hour. However, overall it’s an easy drive. There are multiple ways to get in out without getting on the freeway. "

"Lived in Canal Winchester for 15 years and love it. Live in Ashbrook Village neighborhood and it’s very quiet and safe. I would NEVER consider North of Rt. 33 though. The farther north you get, the worse it becomes!"

"My neighborhood has empty nesters, young couples with babies, school age kids & retirees. It's a great place close to shopping, restaurants, entertainment, etc. Canal Winchester is a great place to live & raise a family. "

"Downtown Canal is very small but homey. Small local restaurants and parks along with safe neighborhoods. Everyone is pretty friendly for the most park. Near a couple grocery stores and not far from 33. "

"The commute is slow. Route 33 is over burdened with too many cars. There is construction in both directions which only makes things worse."

"Canal Winchester is a wonderful place to live and specifically Ashbrook Village. There are great schools close by and while we have the conveniences of larger areas, it still has a small town feel. We have cute boutiques, antique shops, and family owned restaurants as well as the large big box stores. I've always felt safe here and haven't had a single incident at home or in the community that would make me feel otherwise."

"Quiet, great family neighborhood, easy access to Rt 33. 15 min to Lancaster or Columbus"

"My husband and I moved here to downsize ten years ago after our children finished high school. Bad mistake! Now that they're both out of college, we're waiting for the housing market to improve so that we can move. The schools are mediocre; there's nothing for adults without children to do; and there's little public transportation for the elderly. Canal Winchester prices are lower than in many other Columbus suburbs, but as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for"! I wouldn't recommend this city to anyone."
