10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageVery impressed with the staff and school. Our daughter briefly went to a private school during and after COVID and I wasn’t sure what it would be like switching her back to a public school but the staff and studnets here are awesome.I love that there is more diversity at this school and am sad that most of my daughter’s new friends that came here from Rigler are not going to Grant with her.The principal, counselors, office staff and teachers have all been phenomenal and supportive of my daughter who also has some accomodations, etc.The parent participation is high here and years ago, I had heard that parents weren’t kept in the loop and there weren’t a lot of opportunities for volunteering or communication, but that has NOT been our experience. They text, email, send messages via the Remind app and I am notified of upcoming events, late days, homework, etc.The pricipal here Dr V is a wonderful lady and the children that go here are friendly. PPS is pretty amazing at teaching anti bullying in the early years and it shows because although not everyone likes each other, most respect one another and my daughter, who was bullied at the private Christian school never had any problems here. They also have a fabulous choir and band that most kids participate in. The one downside is there aren’t a lot of electives at this level but the ones that they do have, the teachers are dedicated and the children thrive!Parent Review1y ago5 Reviews - Rigler Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Averagehonestly i really like this school so far. ive only been here a year but it seems really nice so far, contrary to what the data says. it seems to be out of date, at the very least the name is, as its now mcdaniel. the teachers are great, the building is super nice and new, its kept fairly clean, and there have only been a couple fights ive seen or heard about. i know franklin high school has had a lot more fights this year than we have. im not sure why, but for some reason the grading standards for core classes are lower here than some other schools like franklin. for example, at franklin you need 90% for an A, whereas here you only need 87.5%. that could be due to the school being in a low income area, if thats the case then thats a little messed up to expect less from a low income neighborhood. the french department could use a little work, theres one french teacher who is very under qualified. i could have learned more on duolingo for a couple months than a year of his class. he only learned french from being in a french speaking country in africa for a little bit and doesnt know a lot of spelling and grammar. my friend who went to le monde french immersion school has to correct the teacher here, not an uncommon experience for other students from that school. overall, i like the school and the atmosphere. it is on 82nd which is a little sketchy but i still feel safe there. also, the school lunch is surprisingly good, and if you have money a lot of food is accessible by foot or bus nearby.Student Review2y ago30 Reviews - Check out schools near Alberta Ct.

"Not sure, I don’t own a dog but I do see dog owners sometimes not having leashes and it bothers me with letting my kids run around and them being free. "

"Driving Wise, it takes around 20 minutes tops to get most anywhere in East Portland, Downtown Portland, or South Vancouver (outside of rush hour traffic at least). Alternatively, there are many bus routes going in each direction as well, starting from the early hours of the morning to late at night (after 12am). I commuted by bus for 3 years from this neighborhood, and I have always been really pleased with the variety of the routes and the frequency of their pick-ups."

"I live on the east side of Cully, on 42nd Avenue. It is very easy to catch buses going in each direction, and the Hollywood Max Station is only 10 minutes away. "

"It’s nice but a lot of homeless activity and garbage on side streets. Also never leave your car unlocked and check your mail daily "

"Dogs and owners walk all day/night and are friendly. Nice sense of community. There are some transient/homeless that go through trashes and used to have a mail problem with theft. "

"It’s a great place for diversity of people! We haven’t lived here long but really love it. It seems to be the last neighborhood in portland that isn’t over run with condos. "
