4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOverall we have been extremely happy with Peekskill City Schools. Peekskill has a challenging and engaging academic curriculum that includes an exceptional dual language program, excellent visual art, performing arts, and music programs at all levels. At Hillcrest the academic curriculum is rigorous and many teachers take an interdisciplinary approach. They are using the most up to date learning resources and information. In 4th grade we did have some issues with the teacher's disciplinary tactics and the way they treated students and we brought that up to them in the parent teacher conference and notified the principal. 5th grade teachers were excellent though and very compassionate and caring. The teachers are very communicative and available when support is needed. Through their support my child was assigned to honors classes and advance Spanish when entering 6th grade. We love the diversity of Peekskill and how it is reflected in the schools. The school district is structured on the Princeton Plan, kids from all over the city attend school together in all grades to promote diversity at every grade level. The fact that our child is in school with kids of many different cultural and economic backgrounds plus the culturally responsive curriculum has fostered learning and understanding of diversity and inclusion throughout her public school experience and she has a diverse friend group. Through her educational experience our child has been supported academically, creatively, and emotionally by teachers and administration. Whenever we need support, teachers, admin and guidance counselors are always available. Through their support our child is excelling in her education. We are extremely satisfied with Peekskill public schools, our child’s education and the school community we are a part of.Parent Review2w ago5 Reviews - Oakside School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOakside was our favorite school out of the three elementary schools in Peekskill. My child entered 2nd grade just as they were coming back to in person learning. The school handled the transition very well. Returning to in person was a very positive experience and the school was always very communicative with parents. Peekskill has a challenging and engaging academic curriculum that includes an exceptional dual language program, excellent visual art, performing arts, and music programs at all levels. The dual language program at Oakside was excellent. She had wonderful teachers in both 2nd and 3rd grade who made learning exciting, engaging and creative. All the teachers were so compassionate and caring and always available to talk and answer any questions. The administration was also excellent and always responsive. The principal and vice principal would be outside helping to direct traffic and greet families every morning at drop off. Oakside also has the amazing regeneration farm on its premises which I think was a positive things for students to see and they give free fruits and veggies out to families during harvest season. Truly a friendly school for a friendly town!We love the diversity of Peekskill and how it is reflected in the schools. NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe loved Woodside School. My child's kindergarten and first grade experience was wonderful. The teachers were so kind and caring and made school fun and creative. She was in the dual language program which is an immersive language learning program where the students learn all subjects in English and Spanish, and have two teachers that alternate each day. I was very impressed with reading instruction and how much my child's reading improved in kindergarten and first grade. The teachers were very caring and compassionate and took a very creative approach to teaching and learning. They did so many creative projects and worked creativity into every subject which seemed to have a positive impact on my child. They also have a beautiful outdoor space and playground for recess. We love the diversity of Peekskill and how it is reflected in the schools. 4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child has been attending Peekskill public schools since Kindergarten and is now a 7th grader at Peekskill Middle School. She is in Honors level Math, Science and Art and is in accelerated Spanish. All a testament to the wonderful elementary education and dual language program. This will give our child access to regents level classes in 8th grade and even more advanced college level classes when she is in high school. We have been impressed by the variety of arts programming and STEAM classes at the Middle School as well, and in the school district overall at all levels so far. The variety of art options is extensive. She is in Honors art and is now taking a separate Sculpture class. She also takes music appreciation and creative writing. She has also participated in their wonderful theater program, acting in Matilda last year, and being a part of the stage crew this year for Sponge Bob. She is not in the band or orchestra, but the variety of musical instruments students can learn is impressive, including string instruments like cello and viola. Its also cool that the Visual Arts program holds art shows each year showcasing student artwork at local spaces like the Peekskill Coffee House, Bean Runner Cafe, New Era Creative Space, and Westchester Community College. The assignments in middle school are challenging, engaging and interdisciplinary. The school is really diverse and I appreciate the culturally responsive curriculum which means kids learn so much about other cultures and about one another which has had a really positive impact. Through her school assignments our child has learned critical thinking and creative problem solving. She is encouraged to think through multiple concepts that are taught in multi-faceted ways. She really loves her teachers and has made great friends. Our child has been supported academically, creatively, and emotionally by teachers and administration at PKMS and the elementary schools. Whenever we need support, teachers, admin and guidance counselors are always available. Through their support our child is excelling in her education. We are extremely satisfied with Peekskill public schools, our child’s education and the school community we are a part of.Parent Review2w ago7 Reviews - Check out schools near 238 Ringgold St #1A.

"This neighborhood is idyllic. Wonderful diversity of cultures mixing together with appreciation of differences and and understanding of sameness. So much to do, and such a great place to raise a family. You can't beat the commute; a beautiful ride up the Hudson on the Metro-north and you're well away from the din and dirt of the city. Or if you need a little culture, you're in the heart of Manhattan in under an hour. Moving here was the best decision. "
