8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBoth my sons attended Tech, and have enjoyed it. My oldest son is now getting ready to transfer to UC next fall and my younger son is currently a junior and enrolled in AP classes that are as challenging as any college class I’ve seen. I feel the curriculum has prepared both boys well for college. They’ve experienced no bullying, and have made great friends here and they’ve generally liked their teachers. Overall we’ve been happy with our kids attending Oakland Tech!Parent Review2y ago10 Reviews - Piedmont Avenue Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI would like to share my insights about Piedmont Avenue Elementary School, while recognizing that each family's journey can be quite different. My goal is not to dissuade prospective parents but to offer a candid reflection of my own experience.I was initially attracted to the school due to its rich diversity among students. Unfortunately, my time there has been overshadowed by several troubling issues, such as favoritism, racial bias, and retaliatory actions from some staff members. The school seems to struggle with organization, and there have been ongoing concerns regarding student behavior, including instances of bullying. Many parents, myself included, have observed a lack of courtesy and respect from certain faculty members. For those with special-needs children, I would recommend proceeding with caution. It appears that special-needs students are often treated differently, frequently being isolated from their classmates during school events. The district's response to the serious concerns I've raised has been disappointingly slow, often disregarding established timelines and evading accountability for the conduct and professionalism of their staff. This lack of action is particularly alarming, as it seems to violate important federal regulations.Parent Review1y ago10 Reviews - Westlake Middle School

"Not sure. I am not a dog owner. But there should be a designated dog park somewhere in the area for neighbors."

"It used to be kid friendly but your kids can’t play in street or yard alone without parent supervision unless you have a gated back yard. Great walking distance to restaurants and shops."

"It's a good place to walk your dog, but there aren't really any dog parks in the neighborhood. However, Moswood Park is only a short distance away, which is ideal for dog owners."

"It's a great walkable neighborhood with charming shops and restaurants. It has a balance of local businesses as well as some of your favorite chain retailers. I can run multiple errands walking up and down this street. Just strolling to get my favorite coffee or takeout from my favorite restaurants is a constant highlight for me. Wonderful, homey, neighborly feel!"

"The neighborhood is a lot like what a block must have looked like in the 1950s. Every service is represented. It has a butcher, a cleaners, a tailor, a grocery store, a drug store, a bank. You literally could never leave the neighborhood and get everything you need to live. There is a third Thursday stroll every month when all the shops are open late and show work by local artists."

" As everyone knows Oakland is not the safest (It is a very safe part of Oakland, however.), but it is the most interesting, as rated last year. Nearby is homeroom (mac and cheese), Hawker fare (Sorta close + Thai), and many more good restaurants. Honestly, parks and rec. isn't amazing but you can walk to Piedmont Ave. school, and it's pretty good. Also nearby town of Piedmont has great parks, and not too far Oakland does too. The Mt. View Cemetery is fab and you will definitely want to stop by in the fall. Close grocery/convenient stores.. Trader Joe's is a 7-12min drive + Piedmont Grocery is a 15-25min walk/5min drive. You won't wanna miss this place, it's good fun here!"
