10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe are super fans of Highland Park. We’ve been here since 2020 and couldn’t have landed in a better spot for our kids. The principal, Katie Peña, is one of the most impressive humans I’ve ever met, let alone a remarkable principal. It’s a fabulous public school with an incredible spirit. Teachers stay for the entirety of their careers, many of them are former HP students themselves, and that’s the sign of a warm and nurturing environment if I’ve ever seen one. I hope this school is here for many more generations of public-school Austinites to come.Parent Review9mo ago14 Reviews - Lamar Middle School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is my first year of middle her and my mental health dropped greatly due to pressure and too much homework, there were some great teachers but others were rude to me. kids here often did not get into fights but emotionally I feel the school isn't too welcome. kids there can relentlessly be mean to people and often get away with it. on the flip side, the fine Arts programs are really immersive and even though I don't necessarily enjoy learning, most of the core subject teachers definitely prepare you for the STAAR tests over all this is a mediocre school.Student Review2mo ago20 Reviews - McCallum High School

"People walk their dogs all the time and they all seem pretty well behaved. The dogs can be socialized and you can be social too. "

"it's central but remote, quiet but engaging, a community but never nosy. it's really quite lovely. I know most of my neighbors, and they know us. "

"Norman Rockwell could have drawn a more family oriented neighborhood. Close enough to everywhere put tucked away from the hectic traffic. Ramsey Park is so close and I love it. "

"Rosedale is very dog friendly, as it surrounds a neighborhood park."

"The neighborhood is dog-friendly but expects dogs to be on a leash most of the time. There are receptacles and poop bags available, especially in the park area, and dog owners are expected to pick up after their animals."

"We always see dogs in the neighborhood. There are plenty of walkable streets, and many of the restaurants and bars are pet-friendly (on the patios) as well."

"It's near the center of town and has a variety of socioeconomic groups represented. Most of the houses in the area were built in the '40s, '50s, and '60s, and many have been drastically altered from their original form, featuring additions that cover much of the lots, as well as second stories. There are a lot of shops and restaurants within easy driving or even walking distance, and the neighborhood park is large enough to accommodate a lot of people."

"Rosedale is just south of Brentwood, and this area is really booming, with tons of new restaurants and shops and places to be. Burnet Road in Rosedale has just exploded over the last few years. It's a fun, hip part of town that attracts young families and has lots to do."

"Rosedale is walkable and friendly. It still retains many of its original homes, and it has a phenomenal park."

"It's about a 15—20 minute straight shot to downtown, even in traffic. Frequent buses also make public transportation a feasible option, but will add time to your commute."

"This is a family friendly neighborhood with lots of young children in the area. Rosedale Park is a great place to meet other families with children. It's close to good schools and has plenty of access to shopping and restaurants. Rosedale Park has ample room for lots of activities, and there's a swimming pool, two tennis courts, and basketball hoops. Playscape has been recently renovated and is lots of fun for children and families."

"It's a great place to raise kids—safe, walkable, lots to do. Ramsey Park in Rosedale is one of our favorite parks. There are good schools in this area as well."

"Excellent access to downtown via Lamar Blvd. The dedicated Park Land that is Pease Park ensures no future development from, roughly 15th through to 35th. The Shoal Creek Trail begins @ 38th and can be followed to the Lake and points beyond."

"I love the walkability of this neighborhood. It's so easy to get to restaurants, parks, coffee shops, shopping and convenient to Mopac, Downtown, and University of Texas."
