9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe success on the magnet program is more a consequence of a very motivated student population with involved parents. There are some very strong teachers at Kealing, but there are also teachers who don't teach and rely on videos and cultivate an atmosphere of rigor through an excessive amount of homework rather than truly challenging the students. This is especially true of math where busywork reigns supreme and instruction is at a minimum. Math teachers overuse videos and there are no textbooks but abundant worksheets and weekend deadlines. The school provides little in the way of social emotional support during a time of life when these kids really, really need it. My children have witnessed and experienced bullying from other students and neglect from teachers; in a school with a lesser academic reputation these would be flagged but, given the high test scores, are largely ignored. I would warn parents of sensitive and/or anxious children to look elsewhere.Parent Review5mo ago39 Reviews - Check out schools near 1800 Lavaca St #215.

"Amazing family friendly area! Our kids play with many of the kids in the neighborhood. Families hang out together and eat together. This is a great location for young families. There are many family events downtown like first Friday and many others every month."

"Downtown Austin is a mix of small-town feel with big-town attractions. We love our local establishments. It's easy to walk around, with green spaces scattered all over. And local bands play every week. We have new buildings constantly going up and festivals happening all year round. The downtown scene is changing dramatically, bringing in new concepts next to old standbys."

"Downtown is where everything happens. It's a nice balance of culture, music, and business—as well as government. The University of Texas is also just north of downtown, so that adds another dimension to this area."

"Downtown is busy and getting busier as more and more companies move here. Downtown does have good access to get north, south, east, and west. Traffic is pretty normal for a big city with 1 million + people. I moved here from California, and Austin is still better than that (SF area, LA area, San Diego, etc.)."
