Because it is such a small school, especially in middle school everybody knows everyone because the in only 1 class per grade and the biggest class in middle school in 7th grade (20 people). That being said, if you don't like one person in your class you don't have them for just Math or something, no you see them all day every day. Most of the teachers are great (in middle school at least) I don't think that one person dislikes the Social Studies/Drama teacher or the ELA teacher and her Intern. The only people I have a problem with are the Math teacher and the Librarian, now I know because I put myself as a current student you will think I'm dramatic but NO! I'm not kidding when I say not one person out of all of middle school likes the math teacher and the Librarian, I mean it. But other than that, I have no complaints really about the school.

Good teachers, lots of activities and extra curricular for kids, and good college prep opportunities from our church experience.

We LOVE Viewlands!We have had 4 children attend at least 2 years of Viewlands between 2013 - 2021, all with very different needs, personalities, and learning styles. Every year their teachers meet our kids where they were and celebrated their strengths. While the kids have favorite teachers, who they hope to get each year, there is not a single teacher they haven't loved. Our kids always feel valued and seen by all the staff. You cannot walk down the hall without a teacher or staff member greeting a kid by name. 3 of our 4 have IEPs and all our interactions with the teachers and staff around getting updates, making sure accommodations are met, etc have been positive - with the staff often bringing up suggestions we hadn't thought of before. With one of our kids, it took us 2 years to realize she likely needed an IEP/504 because the teachers just naturally provided accommodations to her (and the rest of her class). We only formalized her accommodations to make sure we have them for when she moves on to middle school/ Junior high.Unfortunately, the diversity in the school has decreased as a result of the demographic changes in the neighborhood. While this sucks and I wish our neighborhood wasn't pushing our neighbors out, I think Viewlands does a good job trying to make sure their students & families of color still feel seen, heard, and wanted. I know they have done outreach to engage their families that may feel like they are being pushed out and to keep the community feeling united.

its a great school! And the marching band is amazing even when it is rainy and cold these students will give it there all and I belive the amazing teachers have taught this amazing skill! The sports may not be the best overall but the coaches and community make it such a fun experience to be apart of! This school offers many extra-cirrucuals including theater which I would very highly recommend you see and many music programs recently adding a choir, also we have an amazing orchestra and 2 jazz bands, along with the 3 concert bands! We have high school level math classes all the way up to geometry! And also we have Japanese and Spanish classes that are great and immersive and give you high school credits. Since recently 6th graders cannot take a language but 7th grade and 8th grade will have an amazing time, while also having a Costa Rica trip for Spanish classes that u sign up for, and a Japan trip for Japanese class that you sign up for, while also having a DC trip that any 8th grader can sign up for. The whole school has an amazing community in general with all the fun activities you do during the school day! And all 8th graders get to go to a fun overnight trip at orkila and others grades have fun overnights as well! Overall this school is a fun inclusive environment for everyone!
