Description

This property is no longer available to rent or to buy. This description is from February 07, 2024
Classic Mid-Hudson 1840s farm house on 4.7 acres, with pond and 3 barns. Surrounding views remain much the same as they were in the mid 19th century - Country road, orchards, and Rockefeller land (once Livingston land). A large front porch recently re-built and enlarged, is the invitation into the original foyer. The dining room, off the foyer, has original beams and floor boards, a wood burning fireplace, and guest bedroom with bath. The living room, also off the foyer, has a wood burning fireplace, original floors and double glass doors that open to the 15 by18 ft, vaulted ceiling, porch and bluestone terrace planted with geranium and vinca. The refinished eat in kitchen is brilliant with light and overlooks the pond. It's a great work kitchen with marble top work spaces, stellar appliances and door to a small porch. A back door opens to the patio. All 3 upstairs bed rooms and bath are situated around the generous landing. The large walk in closet and changing room could have multi uses if desired. Outside is brilliant with seasonal flowers, old trees, and Holly. Above and behind the house is a large open area - think tennis court or pool. The pond has been dredged and is aerated. The one car garage with large loft houses the mechanicals for pond, and lawn equipment. All the above - house, property, and out buildings have been renovated and improved these past 20 years with preserving the integrity of the original house in mind. The barn has been cabled for stability and provided with new electrical service, the main floor base covered with rough-sawn oak planks, and its foundation refurbished. The shed and ice house also have electrical service and both stabilized with new structural joists and repairs to their siding. This part of the Mid-Hudson valley is brilliant - Church and Cole views from Olana, Bard College, Tivoli, Germantown, Hudson, Great Restaurants and locally raised vegetables and meats. And not to be missed, Talbott and Arding in Hudson for take out.,AboveGrade:1828,APPLIANCES:Water Softener,Basement:Interior Access,Sump Pump,Below Grnd Sq Feet:120,Cooling:Ceiling Fan,EQUIPMENT:Carbon Monoxide Detector,Smoke Detectors,Water Filter,ExteriorFeatures:Outside Lighting,FLOORING:Ceramic Tile,Wide Board,Wood,FOUNDATION:Concrete,Stone,Heating:Central Heat,InteriorFeatures:Beamed Ceilings,Electric Dryer Connection,Gas Stove Connection,Washer Connection,Level 1 Desc:KITCHEN,WASH/DRYER, DINING RM FP. "It's eclectic and gentrified, From whaling and international trade in the 18th century, to cotton mills and brick yards in the 19th century, to cement plants in the early 20th century, industry has risen and fallen. After a long steady decline, the last 30 years in Hudson have seen a remarkable and elegant transformation, thanks in no small part to the influences of my home city, 120 miles to the south. Hudson’s current renaissance started in the ’80s when antiques dealers and artists rediscovered the area and started opening up shop. There are now dozens of antiques stores and galleries along Warren Street, all of which have attracted similarly creative retailers and residents. As diverse as the architecture is, there’s a consistency, thanks in part to the city’s original grid layout of 50- by 120-foot lots and the general uniformity of the buildings’ scale. Hudson fulfills its promise as an escape: verdant hills, roadside farmstands, hawks and eagles overhead. It’s home."
