About this House

Built in 1916 by Joshua G. F. Manwaring, noted surgeon and one of the founders of the American College of Surgeons and updated by the Kramer family in the 1950's, this house has had few owners and is packed with features that delight. On the main floor there is grand entry way with sweeping staircase, a large living room with fireplace and chandeliers. There are beautiful built in cabinets in the dining room which is connected through a swing door to a vintage kitchen, pantry (with period milk door), butler's pantry and breakfast area (where the staff may have eaten).

A staff staircase leads from the breakfast area to a two-room maid's quarters on the second floor complete with kitchenette and a shared bathroom. The second floor continues with 2 large bedrooms and a music room/workplace/small bedroom. Finally there is a master bedroom with shower and sleeping porch.

The third floor has two apartments with vintage 1950s kitchenettes. They share a bathroom with a claw-foot tub and other vintage features.

Some recent upgrades include: new roof on the house and garage and eave replacement, new boiler, and improved features in the second floor bathrooms. There is a large side porch with views of the Flint Cultural Center, a two car garage. Finally, the house is on a large corner lot.

This is a "walker's paradise" within blocks of the Flint Institute of Arts, Whiting Auditorium and the Flint Institute of Music and short walks from both the University of Michigan Flint and Mott Community College campuses and Flint's downtown restaurants, bars and the newly renovated Flint Farmer's Market. For biker's and runners you're seconds away from access to the Flint River Bike trail.
