Warning to Other Parents: Unclear and Unfair Award PracticesAt our 5th grade graduation the school handed out over 50 trophies with completely unclear criteria for academic awards.My son was the top performer in Math, one of the strongest in Science, and earned multiple perfect FAST scores. Yet he received zero recognition.He left frustrated and feeling helpless. He is now questioning the worth of hard work and top results, and feeling deeply disappointed in the institution he once trusted.Parents, academic excellence is not reliably rewarded here. Do not assume the awards reflect real performance. The process feels arbitrary and unfair.Demand better transparency and standards for our kids.

NWSA is intended for students who are passionate about the arts and want to pursue a career in the arts. Therefore, if the arts is only a hobby to someone, this school may or may not be the right fit for some. Nonetheless, the friendships you build while at this school are priceless and almost for life thanks to the small school environment. Academics are very limited, with a lot of improvement needed in the math and science departments. The guidance counselor and college assistance advisor do not provide any aid in applying to college and will bring you down if you don't test during your junior year before applying to universities; counselor only hosts meetings to ensure requirements are being met simply to graduate from the school and can sometimes be rude when asking for help with schedule changes or summer dual enrollment courses. Faculty in the arts, especially in music, can appear warm and friendly, but are known to unreasonably overwork the students, keeping most of them after school for rehearsals until the late afternoon, and have a tendency to prefer some students over others, often not giving equal opportunity for all students to perform, some may not even encourage the students and burn the students' dreams of being professional artists due to their harsh nature; there are exceptions of good teachers that will still push students to reach their greatest potential, but in a kind, respectful manner. Administration is not good and has difficulties in putting the students first. If there is a mistake with a grade, they don't correct it; if there is an emergency happening at the school involving a student, they will not respond to it quickly; and if there is a health issue at the school such as mold in the building, they don't take precautions. Administrators at this school also have a tendency to treat the faculty poorly, due to disagreements and lack of school funding. New World was a lot better at an earlier time, but is slowly worsening and losing students. You will make friends here, but the school itself needs improvement as an institution.

If your child has any type of disability I don’t recommend the school. Most of the teachers are on the younger side and dont know how to deal with children correctly. Also, they stick 35 kids into one class and think its justified because they place a helper. The administration is so/so the only person I felt really supported the children was the counselor who left the school earlier this year.
