"I drive to work and have no issues at all. I work by Beaverton and my commute is no problem. Sometimes traffic is a little slow but nothing compared to where I came from, New York "

"Very dog friendly. Lots of respectful dog owners walk their dogs and pick up after their dogs. Dogs stay on leashes and are mindful of barking. "

"Neighborhood streets are great for dog walking. However, broken glass of the main roads is not uncommon. "

"I drive so it’s easy access to the i5 and even the back roads are only about 17 min to downtown. Buses are also easily available and very near the max station. "

"Some people who are parents love it, some can’t stand it. It’s a diverse community (as Portland goes) and has all kinds of people in the hood. The schools can be good if you take the right attitude, some people move out because of the schools. Who can say? "

"I don’t commute to downtown. I commute to NoPo. DH commutes to inner east side near river by car and that takes about 15 mins. "

"Walkable neighborhood with all the diversity of portland. Great location between Mt. Tabor, Rocky Butte, and Powell Butte. Rich tradition of activism and civic participation, with the classic feeling of neglect from the city and state govs. "

"I lived here from 2006 to 2008, at the dawn of this neighborhood's renewal. I loved the laid-back atmosphere in the neighborhood: lots of homeowners and friendly people out and about. Every year I come home to Portland to visit family, and I am amazed at how much Montavilla has grown up! There are great restaurants, coffee shops and locally owned boutiques. The Academy Theater is absolutely wonderful (great movies, vintage charm plus pizza and beer!), as is the delicious pie and coffee at Bi Partisan cafe. Mt. Tabor Park is right out the back door, so dog owners, trail runners, tennis players or picnickers all have really great green spaces to do their outdoorsy things. Plus, Montavilla is still less expensive than the Hawthorne/Belmont areas of SE, yet only about 10 minutes drive or 15 minutes by bicycle to all of the greatness in those more trendy neighborhoods. Montavilla is basically awesome. "

"I love Montavilla! Stark St is buzzing with cafes like Bipartisan and Pastry Girl, a Farmer's Market, great places to eat like Country Cat, Ya Hala and The Observatory and a fantastic second-run cinema called The Academy serving Flying Pie pizza and micro-brew. The area has many bike routes leading to Mt Tabor park and the Spring Water corridor. Mt Tabor is a short walk and has free summer concerts, a gorgeous play ground, dog park, running and walking trails, tennis courts, basketball courts and picnic areas. Overall I highly recommend this area for the livability, walkability and access to downtown, it is very family-freindly with a ton of families."
